Animal Collective – Sweet Road Lyrics

I'm listening to this song/comparing it to the lyrics for a friend, and I'd just like to weigh in here: I dig weird indie music, but this is just lame.
Sorry guys, freak folk is dumb. |

Sebadoh – Brand New Love Lyrics

This song is gorgeous. I've never thought of it as uplifting or positive. It sounds to me like he's singing it to an ex he feels pity or disdain for. Someone who's searching for love to replace one they had.
Regardless, try Death Cab For Cutie's cover of it on the John Byrd EP. It's not as good as the original, but they do a great job with it. |

Orchid – Anais Nin by Numbers Lyrics

Anais Nin was a French-born author who wrote many diaries and erotica. She was married to two men simultaneously, but they didn't know about one another until after her death.
"She considered the characters in her erotica to be extreme caricature and never intended for the erotica to be published. Her writing was scandalously explicit for the time. In her unexpurgated diaries, she wrote about her incestuous relationship with her father."

La Quiete – Fai Finta Di Non Girarti (You Pretend To Not Turn Around) Lyrics

I think this song is about a relationship that either hasn't gotten off the ground or is on its way downhill quickly. Both of them are not being honest with themselves or each other and are unwilling to take action to change the situation.
The first song I heard by this band, and really all it took. |

This song sounds like it was mostly improvised, so don't hold the lyrics against Isaac too much. |

Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics

I can't believe people are still commenting on this song. I think that's great.
Even though I've grown out of the pop-punk scene after four years, this song still reminds me of being 15 and is always worth a listen. |

Straylight Run – With God on Our Side Lyrics

I think it's a great song, and a really appropriate one for them to cover considering the context of the original's release and our own unstable political state. |

Cursive – Hymns for the Heathen Lyrics

I know everyone was super-stoked to download the songs months ago, but this is what ends up happening: Misquoted lyrics. Perhaps the people who posted these lyrics should show some support for the band by, I don't know, actually BUYING the CD and putting the correct lyrics up.
It's worth owning. |

Modest Mouse – Edit the Sad Parts Lyrics

Interstate 8 features two versions of this song-- one is live and closes the EP. The other one separates the last studio song from the live cuts, and for that reason has two minutes of silence. |

The Get Up Kids – The Breathing Method Lyrics

I'm so addicted to this song right now. I wonder what the whole story behind it is.
"Can you conceive that I hate you?" A clever but intensely angry pun... I love it. |

Northstar – The Pornographer's Daughter Lyrics

Did anyone download the live acoustic rendition of this song off of their site a few months ago? Nick changes up the lyrics at the end, and I'm trying to figure out what he says. I know it starts out like this:
"And the girl in the car in the parking lot, says," and then I don't catch it....
And then it ends with, "And she looks up at the building, she says, 'I'm thinking of jumping.' She says, 'I'm tired of life,' oh, she must be tired of something. And I'll be the reason..."
Can anyone tell me what's in between? |

Bear vs. Shark – Buses/No Buses Lyrics

This song reminds me of At The Drive-In. "Picket lines of fence" sounds like it's from a song off of El Gran Orgo, and the "just like the Romans" bit makes me think of ATD-I, too.
Really really good song, though. |

Project X – Straightedge Revenge Lyrics

This song can't really be compared to rap lyrics about "smoking blunts" or whatever. Listen to one such song and it's just the guy trying to sound cool, coming off lame and cliche, but it's still just expressing enjoyment of some activity.
This song is not necessarily preachy, but it's the typical macho gang-mentality crap straight-edge has evolved into. Those rap lyrics are about one person's hobbies; this song is about beating other people up for their own.
Completely different things. Guys, you can not smoke/drink/whatever without drawing X's on your hands and preaching. Live and let live. |

Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Due to the poor production quality, all I picked up out of this song were the lines, "Whenever I breathe out, you're breathing in, positive negative, etc."
So for a while I thought it was a really interesting idea for a love song... being such polar opposites that you're completely in synch.
... and then I came here and saw the other lyrics.
Bah. |

Bright Eyes – From a Balance Beam Lyrics

Summerstars, are you serious? I'm a little more than skeptical of the religious theory, because just a few songs before this on Lifted is "Don't Know When..." and I'd say that song sets Conor's religious outlook forth pretty clearly. |

This is a great cover. Even though it was "our song" and she dumped me for another guy, I can still listen to it because great music transcends broken hearts. |
