Cradle of Filth – Thirteen Autumns And A Widow Lyrics 19 years ago
Man, I don't know who I want to smack more:

The people who insist on trying to classify metal or the people who insist that their SHITTY interpretations of songs are correct.

1) No one gives a shit what you consider black metal, death metal, hard metal, nu metal, viking metal, New Car Smell metal, fat-free metal, etc. etc. SHUT THE FUCK UP while you still have brain cells.

Listen to an artist and their music. Is it well-written? Is the music tastefully crafted? Do the lyrics have good meaning? Ask yourself questions like that. Not "Is this goth?" or "Will people think I'm cool for listening to this?".

2) This song is about Countess Erzsebet Bathory. I'm not going to expend the effort to scroll up and read which jackass said it was about a thirteen-year-old named Elizabeth who blew a priest. Learn fucking symbolism.

The song tells about how she "widowed" from God by becoming more and more enthralled in her world of mysticism, sadism, and other dark, scary things. There was no priest, confession, or Satanic blowjob.

Go back to your coloring books.

....I hope that guy who mentioned Princess Diana was joking.

God, that was retarded.

I agree that it's most likely "Terminus", because it only makes sense with the song.

I used to believe Dani was repeating "Dominus", but that was just because I wanted to believe I knew what he was saying.

Cradle of Filth – Born In A Burial Gown Lyrics 19 years ago
I love how people turn their nose up at anything that doesn't sound like a piece of steel being ground against a powerdrill or something.

Jesus, people, how about ceasing all the subdivisions and classification of metal and just enjoy it?

Cradle of Filth has some of the best lyrical work I'll ever see, their riffs and atmospheric feeling in the songs are premium, and they've interesting live shows.

They're a good band. If you don't like it, fine. But don't be a little prick and say some absurd, off-handed garbage about them being "pop" or not being "black metal" or whatever. No one gives a shit.

Cradle of Filth – Bathory Aria: Benighted Like Usher/A Murder of Ravens in Fugue/Eyes That Witnessed Madness Lyrics 19 years ago
Obviously, listening to and reading the lyrics of Cradle of Filth hasn't given you a good idea of "what they're all about".

Most all of their songs depict humanity in stark contrast -- basically, they are extremely accurate in their portrayal of mankind.

We have monsters and beautiful people inside us all. We are just as filthy and infernal as we are innocent and pure.

Our beauty and our wretchedness is inseparable -- and Erzebet Bathory, a gorgeous queen and lady and nerfarious murderer and sadist, was a perfect historical and rather gruesome example of this.

Your post is also an example. You decry Lady Bathory, but then you blaspheme Christ's name (which doesn't bother me in the least, seeing as I'm agnostic), and claim that people should be shot based on something arbitrary (kind of like Hitler targeting Jews arbitrarily).

Just like Bathory, you are righteous and terribly sick all at the same time. I can't verify you killed hundreds of virgins, but with the right motivation, anyone is capable of anything. It's human nature.

This song IS beautiful. The lyrics are incredibly inspired and poetic, the music is exceptionally well done, and Cradle of Filth's stylings surpass just about anything you'll find the radio in terms of taste and musical talent.

So, there you go.
