Stars – Take Me to the Riot Lyrics

This song reminds me of San Francisco. The tenderloin district near downtown is just a free-for-all for drugs. Cocaine, heroin, pills, weed, everything is just everywhere. All sorts of folk, hipsters, old folk, young folk just getting their fix, and most likely heading back up the Haight-Ashbury uptown to drink or just hang out. This song just reminds me of this whole somewhat chaotic process... it's fun and kind of crazy but also something very introspective. |

Stars – What the Snowman Learned About Love Lyrics

i used to think the intro was lame but if you listen to it, it's kind of interesting. the beat is unusual, it goes:
1-2-3-4/1-2-3/1-2-3-4/1-2/1-2-3-4/1-2-3/1-2-3-4
and it starts the loop over again.
then the rest of the song is in 3/4, which goes well with the guitar arpeggios and everything else.
i thought it was interesting how someone pointed out that nightsongs is the head and this is the heart. nightsongs is kind of cerebral and calculated electronic beats whereas this song has more of a natural and flowing feel to it.
i first heard this CD when I was 15 or 16, now I'm 24 and it seems like this CD matures with me. |

Weezer – I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams Lyrics
| 12 years ago

Anyone think this song is kind of hilarious in some sort of bittersweet way? The first couple of lines of this song are kind of ridiculous. If you look outside the literal meaning of these lines, it shows some sort of bipolar narcissism. My ego is so high, I can't get over myself. I'm so depressed, but you still can't get laid by me. I must be some bipolar manic/depressive because I just threw out the love of my dreams.
Genius. |

Live – The Dolphin's Cry Lyrics

the imagery in this song is absolutely amazing. the way i interpret this song is in somewhat of a spiritual aspect.
sure it has allusions to the whole 'sex on a beach' motif but on a deeper level there is such... intensity.
the whole time, the guy's trying to explain something. something that is indescribable. some may call it love. but every verse is just like a little attempt to even grasp at describing even a little part of it but its so strong and overwhelming he just feels helpless and can do nothing but give into it. there is a lot of references to being "helpless" and powerless. kind of similar to being in a state of mystical trance.
this song. just wow. |

Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – A Children's Crusade On Acid Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
this song is obviously about richard's experiences on acid. what amazes me about this song is how profound it is. the first verse is probably just about a girl sarah who he tripped with, having rolled cigarettes for the trip she sees streets of gold... laughs so hard it hurts (happened to me many times) and maybe she had a bad trip about her mother.
the second verse though... i think richard is referring to corporations or government that create (or fabricate [depending on your beliefs]) "global warming". he is aware of their plan to... for the lack of a better phrase... take over the world (leave my wretched soul alone) be it through ideological/financial/political domination. he has no part in it nor does he plan on it (i dont know you/i dont owe you a thing).
my favorite line in this song has to be "but the children lose their minds/in such uncertain times"... he seems to be talking about our generation who more and more is awaking to the reality of this f'ed up world. i (having expiremented with psychedelics) have literally lost my mind thinking of what will happen in the future and wha t we can do about it... such uncertainty with war, global warming, politics, increasing natural disasters....
the last comment i want to make is with the last line "oh christ i am". i think edward's is referencing the ever increasingly popular "new age" movement that embraces free will and the belief that you are your own god. i have noticed a lot of people have been abandoning organized religion and been taking up eastern philosophy or other beliefs that deny the existence of a god... other than yourself obviously. its interesting how fast this idea is spreading |

Further Seems Forever – The Moon Is Down Lyrics
| 19 years ago

yeah, maybe someone should read "The Moon Is Down" by Steinbeck... in the song, you can hear, in the beginning, sounds of airplanes and a dog barking. If you read the book, you'd know that at the end of the novel, airplanes drop explosives to the people of the town to rid the Germans of their occupation. But the same night, when Steinbeck is introducing the scene, as he is well known for, he includes a description of a dog barking. These two sounds weren't coincidentially put into the song. They have a purpose. Also, the courage and strength reference is referring to the people of the town to fight against the Germans. |

Weezer – Everybody Wants a Chance to Feel All Alone Lyrics
| 19 years ago

obviously, this song is about killing, literally or metaphorically, his love. "darlin' i think its time that i let you go, i dont feel any guilt as i touch your throat" he says he shouldn't have the girl anymore and he chokes her... "all for love you suffocate" continues the choking reference. "but i watch as you choke on your tears" is a really powerful line to me. she is choking from him suffocating her and also she is crying because he is doing so. normally, i dont think, one would cry while they were being choked, i would assume that one would be screaming and panicking. her crying shows that she really loved him and cared. "suddenly i feel so strong, i dont hear a single sound" he feels powerful for killing her, and since she is dead, all he hears is silence. "looking up towards the stars, i can see for very far" i never really could understand what those words meant but its very powerful. this song is romantic yet very eery, but thats why i love it |
