Okkervil River – Lost Coastlines Lyrics 10 years ago
Sit down, sit down on the prow to wave bye
There might not be another star further on the line

We sing
Is that marionette real enough yet to step off of that set
To decide what her hands might be doing
Ruining the play to, in the ensuing melee, escape

We packed up all of our bags
The ship's deck now sags from the weight of our tracks
As we pace beneath flags black and battered
Rattling our swords in service of some (faded/fated) foreign lord

We sail out on orders from him but we find
The maps they sent to us don't mention a lost coastline
Where nothing we've actually seen has been mapped or outlined
And we don't recognize the names upon these signs

Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics 14 years ago
He's being pressured into sex by a girl who he loves. "Shes moving way too fast and all he wanted was to hold her"

Such a friggin sexy song. I love it though, especially the "Die young and save yourself." I love screaming along with him. Its fun, such a high energy way to end the song. (my band covers it)

Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah this is a pretty easy call... its SARCASM. Just the sort of philistine behaviour I've come to expect from you noncreative garbage. Anyway, its brilliant. If it weren't sarcastic, it would be stupid and narcissistic.

Something Corporate – Space Lyrics 14 years ago
Hehe I played this for my parents once. They didn't get it. But it was because they're basically tracking down my friends online so they can see everything about them. A little crazy, and quite frustrating. I would think they would be less paranoid now that I'm a bit older... maybe not.

I got completely torn apart by this girl I thought I loved, and this song helped me say what I couldn't. I want to play it for her sometime.

lol how could you even compare Co&Ca to POD. Jeez... POD? *throws up on cat*

Nickel Creek – I Should've Known Better Lyrics 14 years ago
Nope this is a Carrie Newcomer song they covered. Covered very well. And you can take your country music stereotypes and shove em somewhere. Besides that, no one with any grasp of music in general could call Nickel Creek country. Most people won't even call them bluegrass.

Nickel Creek – When You Come Back Down Lyrics 14 years ago
This song wasn't written by Nickel Creek, by the way. It was written by Tim O'Brien

Something Corporate – If You C Jordan Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah this definetely isn't SoCo but I mean its still a fun song. Not everything has to be incredibly deep, you can write songs just for the sake of having fun. And that doesn't make it selling out either. I'm a huge Weezer fan, and anyone who knows anything about them can tell you their two most recent albums were disappointing. But I love Hashpipe. People say they sold out with that song. Its not a normal Weezer song, but its still a good song.

Yeah just to clarify, the record preceded the musical which preceded the movie.

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah I'm going with Boo Radley, although the nuclear war thing makes sense as well. I do think that Radiohead are more concerned with conveying an overall emotion and artistry rather than telling a story, comperable to an Alford Hitchcock Formalist direction versus a Stephen King Narrative direction. And through all of this, we must acknowledge that this is experimental music, and may or may not actually make sense. Although, I believe someone has suggested that the lyrics were chosen randomly in the case of any song that doesn't superficially communicate its meaning.

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 14 years ago
OK once again, I'll remind you all that it is ridiculous to try to clearly define something that is subjective in nature. So let's all quit being rude and have some intelligent discussion about this song.

Led Zeppelin – Dazed and Confused Lyrics 14 years ago
Forgive me for refer to an older comment, but I feel the need to rant.
"4 girls asked you out, WOW! pat yourself of the back. now you can feel secure about yourself and we can all realize that you don't give a fuck about the meaning of this song. rather, you pretend to give the song some meaning and choose announcing to everyone that this song helped you cope with the problem of having 4 girls wanting to date you, presumingly all at the same time. i'm sure that mr. plant had the exact same situation roll over on him and that's why he wrote these lyrics...too many girls wanting him. WRONG. this song is about that "one girl" who throws you out of whack and you're a loser. "- Atemporal

Ok sorry but this sort of closed-mindedness pisses me off. The selfrighteous jerk needs to acknowledge that MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE! It means different things for different people. So I think its great that this guy found a way to connect a great song to something in his own life. So pull your head out of your tail and feel good for him that he is capable of connecting to music. Please do not EVER insult someone because they believe something differently than you do. Disagree all you want but have some respect.

OK on that note, I'll end my rant. I didn't check all the comments, so in case it hasn't been said, this was a song Page wrote with the Yardbirds shortly before their breakup. He continued playing it with Led Zeppelin.

There's a great cover of this song by Weezer (playing as Goat Punishment). If you didn't know, Rivers Cuomo was a huge Nirvana fan, so they had a bunch of great covers of their songs in their Goat Punishment shows. You can download them for free at www.goatpunishment.com/music

Yeah I never thought to much about the meaning, but the Matt Sharp theory makes perfect sense. Regardless, I love this song. Let's all cross our fingers and hope its on Album 5 this spring.

Weezer – Falling For You Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah this song like saved my life this summer. It perfectly described my relationship with this girl. Who actually blew me off. Then it went to "Why Bother?" then "The Good Life." And now its closer to "Across the Sea."

Black Sabbath – War Pigs Lyrics 14 years ago
"Why don't you listen and learn from bands like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Tool, Bob Marley, John Lennon, and COUNTLESS others to think for yourself man."

Well thats just asinine. "Listen to these people to think for yourself." How about you listen to yourself to think for yourself. Listening to these left wing artists for your viewpoins is, in my mind, worse than listening to politicians. Please, process thoughts thoroughly before posting them on the internet and making yourself look like a jerk.

Um this is clearly just a show off song. When you have one of the greatest drummers, guitarists, and bassists in the same band, you might show off once in a while.

Simon and Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson Lyrics 14 years ago
Ok in response to Sebastian whatever, the song is about the movie. Paul Simon actually wrote all the music for the film, and this was the only song specifically written for it. It wasn't so much about the film as about the culture of the subjects. It was simply meant, as was the film, to reflect the youth culture of the late 60's. Don't let the fact that Paul Simon wrote the song for The Graduate take away from it though, its still a great song.

Bob Dylan – Subterranean Homesick Blues Lyrics 14 years ago
Maybe its just me, but when I first heard this song, I thought of the time of the Great Depression and the Prohibition. "Johnny's in the basement mixin' up the medicine" could refer to a moonshine run. It makes sense to me, and sense no one else has a theory, lets discuss the possibilities of this.

Coheed and Cambria – A Favor House Atlantic Lyrics 14 years ago
Okay if you guys would just pay attention, this would be no problem. The entire album is one story. In fact, it is a sequel to the story told in A Second Stage Turbine Blade. It is about a girl. For more information, just consider context. Where does it fit in in the album? Read between the lines, and think poetically.

Coheed and Cambria – 21:13 Lyrics 14 years ago
Okay just a correction to You Are Wrong. Actually more of a clarification. This is clearly a tribute in one sense or another to Rush, and their great work 2112. However, this is not present because they are often compared to Rush. The high-range vocals are similar to Rush, but there is much more to it. Co&Ca are, in the most objective, technical sense, progressive rock. Rush were among the greatest and most influential of progrock bands, and Sanchez and Trevers have both named them as influences. They were, in a way, paying respects to a band that greatly inlfuenced them as musicians. And one more thing to clarify, the story we are following from Second Stage Turbine Blade and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 is not based on the sci-fi comic. On the contrary, Sanchez is writing the comics to explain to fans what the albums are about (Guitar World magazine, September 2004).
