its odd thats its always viewed as a happy hopeful love song, brian wilson actually wrote it about a bad time in his marriage with his then with marylin, its quite bitter and sarcastic in some way because its like 'we could get married and then we'd be happy' the irony that they were married and deeply unhappy, they were ment to get married and be blissfully happy but he thought he married the wrong person hence the 'Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
