Green Day – Jesus of Suburbia Lyrics

I downloaded this song and when I had it playing in the background I thought that the person who ripped it screwed up and ripped four songs in a row. Then I paid attention. I never like Green Day before this album. I always dismissed them as sell outs, but this song is epic. I am actually going to buy the album. |

Death Cab for Cutie – Title and Registration Lyrics

I always thought it was "isn't accurately named" like the lyrics posted here. Anyway... You tend to toss stuff in your glove compartment and leave it there. Receipts, wrappers, pictures, etc. Then when you have to actually go into it, you find a bunch of random objects from your past, and even though it may be rather insignificant to someone else, chances are it's going to bring back memories about the time you put it there. If those times were better than now, then you catch my interpretation of the song. |

Ween – Voodoo Lady Lyrics

I believe the correct lyrics are "boogie oogie oogie oogie oogie oogie oogie oogie"
Besides the fact that this is such a damn cool song, Ween gets special props for being able to say oogie so many times in a row withouth screwing up. I mean, have you tried it? Do it now. I'll wait.
See? It's fucking hard, man.
Also, my dog likes this song ...especially when I sing it to her when we play fetch. |

Ween – Freedom of '76 Lyrics

I used to dismiss Ween as some whacked out band that made money off of writing whacked out songs, but seeing them play this song live totally changed my mind about them. They can pull off anything. This is a great, soul-filled, summertime song. It's hard to believe they are white. |

Sloan – Penpals Lyrics

Seems like excerpts from international pen pal letters. The nonsensical lyrics come from the fact that these are young teenagers writing very broken English. It's a super happy fun song. I listen to it all the time. I'm wondering... do people even have penpals anymore? |

Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics

It's "Don't Worry Be Happy" for the indie scene. Except now it's on Top 40 radio, so I guess it's no longer indie, now is it? So I guess that just makes it plain old "Don't Worry Be Happy" but with music instruments instead of whistling. |

OK now it makes sense. Mariana refers to the Mariana Trench near Japan which is one of the deepest parts of the ocean on the planet.
I always pictured someone riding a tsunami to Japan but the song ends before it hits the coastline. |

This is a very stylish song. Very sassy, snooty, and a little biting. I love the clapping in it between verses. |

Suede – Everything Will Flow Lyrics

I find this song very comforting for some reason. It's like it's saying that you may have a dull, normal, life, but don't worry, it's all good. The neon lights and stars are with you.
The dance version is a blast! |

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Hong Kong Garden Lyrics

You know, I really like this song a lot because it's got such a great new wave/Asian sound to it, but it's not too deep is it? In fact it seems very stereotypical.
I bet it's about a Chinese restaurant that's open 24 hours. |

Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
"And together there,
In the shroud of frost,
The mountain air began to pass,
Through every pane of weathered glass,
And I held you closer,
than anyone would ever get."
I'm not too romantic, but I bet the time that is described in those lines was special and I hope it was real and not made up because it sounds like a time no one would want to ever forget. |

Hole – Northern Star Lyrics

I've never really even thought about what the song is about and I've heard it a billion times! I just get caught up in all the imagery. Ice and angels and dark forests and an evil overlord. It's like a musical dark fantasy. |

Barenaked Ladies – It's All Been Done Lyrics
| 20 years ago

OK so no one is mentioning the theory that this song is either about immortals, like vampires, or is about reincarnation? It spans from the fall of Rome up to the 30th century. It's a happy song, so I'd imagine it's about happy vampires who like game shows. |

Interpol – PDA Lyrics

I know this is not deep, but it reminds me of a nightclub in Atlanta called The Living Room that has a whole bunch of couches all over the place. So I think about that or about having a slumber party or about when you have a big party and people get too wasted to leave, so they sleep on the couch, but this is better because there are 200 of them, so no one has to sleep on the floor, and everyone is really comfortable to the point of not waking up with a hangover. So this song makes me happy. |

Alanis Morissette – Unsent Lyrics

This song is brilliant as is the video. There's a nice range of emotion here.
Jonathan is someone whom I think a lot of us have come across at some point in our lives.
As someone who has let a couple of good ones go for selfish reasons, "You were the best platform from which to jump beyond myself. What was wrong with me?" really hits hard with me too. |

At first I thought this song was about vampires and how they are immortal and the singer is a vampire and keeps running into another one. Now I'm thinking it might be about reincarnation. |

Terraryzin, when I heard this song the first few times, I was trying to figure it out, and I couldn't get George Bush out of my head, especially when I would hear "But I'm more than just a little curious
How you're planning to go about
Making your amends to the dead." I came to this page to see if anyone else had any insight. Thanks for your post. You're not a moron! :) |

Peter Murphy – Our Secret Garden Lyrics

It's a happy song but with hints of desperation. I was really looking forward to seeing this song live, and when I did, the stage light got all green and trippy, and I was totally mesmerized until the girl in front of me turned around and asked, "Don't you think he sounds like Neil Diamond?" |

Morrissey – Everyday Is Like Sunday Lyrics

I imagine being stuck in a tourist beach town in the off-season when nobody is there (like a bomb dropped) and the stores are closed (like on a Sunday) and it's cloudy and wet and there's nothing to do. Like when you go to a boardwalk in winter. |

Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics

I just heard this song on an internet radio station and it cracked me up. I read the interview about it, and from the comment in the interview, "Um everyone was looking good that night," I picture an ecstasy-filled night out that just happened to get a bit experimental. As if that doesn't happen! It seems that the song was written so blatant as to give their friend a good razzing. People do things they may regret afterward, and your friends might find a way to not let you live it down. This song seems to be one of those ways, and it's hilarious!
"Michael you're dancing like a beautiful dance-whore" - That's not a verse that would be used in a serious manner, straight or gay! This song is much funnier than a song about vomiting. I don't see where the "it just makes me glad I'm not gay" comment comes into play though. I don't see the tragedy in this song.... only a lot of fun. |
