Bebo Norman – I Will Lift My Eyes Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song...I specifically like the line "I will lift my eyes to the Maker of the mountains I can't climb."

It reminds me that no matter what I face in this life, God is bigger than anything in this world I face, and nothing is beyond Him because he MADE this world. It's very comforting, and I find myself singing this song quite often to God.

Phil Wickham – Divine Romance Lyrics 17 years ago
I find the utmost beauty in the analogy for the Christian's relationship to Christ which exists in marriage. This song is beautiful, as it speaks of the "divine romance" we have with Christ.

It makes me think of the verse in the Bible in which it speaks of the day coming when we will see Christ face to face...oh! I can hardly wait.

Relient K – The Thief Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song could be taken either way, as a relationship with a person or with Jesus. I personally take it to be about a person.

I love the line "Somewhere the sun is always shining," which actually reminds me of when it talks about in Revelation how there is no sun in heaven, but the 'Son' is the only light, and He shines forever.

MxPx – For Always Lyrics 18 years ago
I think you all hit it on the head when you said that this song is about appeciating, even cherishing both the good times and the bad times, and realizing that it takes both to develop and grow us.

MxPx – Tomorrow's Another Day Lyrics 18 years ago
This song addresses an oft-breached subject in music: life. The reason it excels (in my opinion) is the optimistic outlook that the singer presents. Lines like "There's nothing quite like being sure of what's inside your heart" and "Tomorrow is another day, another chance to make things right" mean so much to me personally when I am feeling depressed. I especially appreciated this song when I was in my early teen years, and life seemed to go by so slowly.

Dashboard Confessional – The End of an Anchor Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that's interesting to think of it as a song to God…when I first heard it too I thought of a girl, but a lot of the lines make sense when you think of it as written to God...I love this song.

Blindside – Sleepwalking Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is INCREDIBLE live! Go see Blindside if you get the chance!

Here's my take on this song:
The lyricist asks the question "Are you trying to wake me up?" then questions, "but could it be maybe, it's not me sleeping. Could it be maybe you awakening?"

He continues to speak of himself supposedly sleepwalking, though he questions again, "could it be maybe you awakening?" I think he is talking of being asleep spiritually, and how everyone thinks he is the one sleeping, when really he's the one who's awake.

"(One day we'll) sleepwalk out of sight"

Then the bridge:
"One day this world will see me at the horizon." I think this is speaking of death.
"One day from a distant light." I think the distant light is heaven.
"And just before I stand to face my love," I think his love is God.
"I'll turn around and with a smile I'll say my goodbyes, just one last goodbye. Goodbye." He turns and says goodbye to the world.

When he whispers "Goodbye," the music stops, then starts again so hard and beautiful, with crazy intensity. The screams of "goodbye" at the end help to make this one of my favorite songs. A song of people sleeping spiritually, all the while thinking the Christians are the ones sleeping, when really only those who are Christians are awake spiritually. And finally a song that speaks of that glorious day when the Christian finally stands face to face with his love, Christ.

Well, thats my take on it. Maybe I took it too far. What do y'all think?

MxPx – Inches From Life Lyrics 20 years ago
This is one of my favorite MxPx songs...it def. rocks!

Well, it starts off by talking about "something wrong inside of us," "a narrow mind a hardened heart." I see this as talking about our sin problem, all humans are born sinners, turned from God. It's our natural state.

The second verse goes on to say how frustrated the lyricist is with this problem, and how despite the fact that "we are taught to go along, we need to figure out what might be wrong."

"You oughta know you can be inches from life and never live at all." Without God, life is empty. It ultimately has no meaning. You can be soo close to life, but you will never know what real life is while you are apart from God. And pride can keep people from turning to God, that is their "downfall" that they are only living "inches from life."

I love verse 4: "Could it be there's something real, not always known but you can feel, the presence of an absolute, that our lives can't substitute."
There is something real, God does exist. There is more to life than pursuing happiness. There is "the presence of an absolute," God, "that our lives can't substitute." There is no substitute for God. He is the only one that can save us, and allow us to know what true life is.

But thats just my take. What does anyone else think this song is talking about?

MxPx – The Downfall Of Western Civilization Lyrics 20 years ago
i see no one has ventured to decrypt this song...the only thing i can figure is taken from the title, that this is somehow a statement on western civilization. It sounds like he's talking to people who dont know who they are and that dont know where they are going. He doesnt know them and they don't know him...either that or maybe this song has no meaning whatsoever...anybody have any ideas?

Stavesacre – Gold And Silver Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, this song speaks of someone loved very much heart falling away and rejecting God and following their own way ("I know where you're going, and that's the hardest part"). The second verse speaks of the immense burden felt for the person, to the point of "burning tears."
The message of the song is that God is in control, sometimes we just have to let go and take refuge in His wings (Psalm 91:4). At the end of the song ("If it were mine to give I'd give you your own time") it is realized that there is a constraint on this life called time, and that God is waiting to "cover all our helpless souls."

This is one of my all-time favorite songs.
