I think the masturbation theory is fairly obvious. However, for myself, I prefer to take them to mean something a little different. I like to think he loves no one by choice, and is ashamed of the fact that he does not care.

I believe this song is about a failed relationship. Not literally a murder. I think that would be too obvious. I think the author is trying to tell about a relationship that he himself demolished. I think he realizes his faults, and feels guilt, but also knows he cannot change. Even if it hurts those around him.
Look at "you can spare us the formal toast
the drunken anecdotes" <--sounds an awful lot like a wedding.
I think he's somewhat bitter and sorry as well. But it's too late to matter. |
