The Beatles – I Want to Hold Your Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
I only listen to the 1967-1970 Beatles and this song is a reason why. The Beatles back then were more pop than rock. They finally started to play real rock towards the end of the Beatles. Come on do you really thing a innocent little pop band could have some serious drug addictions.

And for the record, this comment is just so ignorant, and it makes my head hurt.

The notion that this song is simple and juvenile is just such crap. This came out at a time when 90% of all rock n' roll songs written had the standard i-iv-v chord change, whereas this is completely different. You can't compare this song to, say, "Lateralus" by Tool in terms of the amount of theory put into it, because this was written when rock n' roll was still in its developing stages, and it's a brilliant song.

It was written more than 40 years ago, and it's still instantly recognizable to everyone, so it must be relevant to the rock n' roll genre.

Oasis – Be Here Now Lyrics 19 years ago
Nonsense. There are tons of great songs on Be Here Now. "The Girl In The Dirty Shirt," "Fade In-Out," "It's Gettin' Better (Man)," "Magic Pie," "I Hope, I Think, I Know," and "D'you Know What I Mean?" All quality songs.

The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics 19 years ago
It's quite safe to say this is the greatest, or one of the greatest ever written. I haven't heard every song, but if I haven't heard such-and-such song, how could it possibly be the greatest? That's not saying that all popular songs are great or that absolutely every great song is popular ("Trilogy" by Sonic Youth is a good example of this). But this is most certainly a landmark in rock n' roll, along with "Johnny B. Goode," "That's All Right," "Stairway To Heaven," "What's Going On," "Imagine," "Like A Rolling Stone," "Hey, Jude," "London Calling," and "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Not only that, it's become a landmark in music PERIOD, and is on par with "Greensleeves" and "Happy Birthday." EVERYONE knows "Yesterday." They play it on the carillon at the university I attend every day at 5:00. It's the most-covered song in history.

And to say that John Lennon was a communistic idiot is insulting. He was one of the best songwriters to ever make records.

I personally think this is the greatest song ever in the history of music, along with "Greensleeves." It's just that good.

Pearl Jam – You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (The Beatles cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
spankme doesn't know what he's talking about. This song was written in early 1965, over a year before John met Yoko, and roughly 2 years before Paul met Linda. And this song was more John's composition than Paul's, just like "Yesterday" was more Paul's than John's.

Either way, Yoko and Linda take too much blame for breaking up the Beatles, when the process originally started when John went to Spain to do How I Won The War, and the desire to break up grew massively after Epstien died.

thefez, I've never heard that, but that's a very cool interpretation.

The White Stripes – Hotel Yorba Lyrics 19 years ago
And if anyone's interested, Jack and Meg were most definitely married. I work with someone who used to work with Meg White at a bar in Royal Oak. She also said that Jack White, next to the guy from Nickleback, was the scariest man in rock n' roll.

The White Stripes – Hotel Yorba Lyrics 19 years ago
I've met White Stripes fans at college that wanna go and see Hotel Yorba, and they don't believe me when I tell 'em there's nothing to see. It's a run-down piece of shit off of I-75. There was a rumor though, that the Beatles stayed there on their first US tour the night before they played at the Olympia in Detroit.

By the way, I <3 Detroit.

I heard they leave out a few verses of this song, but I think they do a fantastic job of it, especially the live versions. This song holds a special place in my heart for some personal reasons. :D

Bob Dylan – Visions of Johanna Lyrics 19 years ago
The line that really does it for me is, "Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles."

Fantastic song.

Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics 19 years ago
I think both Cash's and NIN's versions of this song are both equally good, but are two different readings of the song. The NIN version sounds like that depressed teenager who doesn't feel like he has any friends and cuts himself, wishing that he could move away and start life over, 'cuz it already looks bleak (hence the last verse). The Cash version sounds like that old man who has lived life and "hurts" himself by thinking back on who he has lost and realizing that all the material possessions he has acquired in life means nothing compared to the loved ones that are no longer with him, and in the end, it seems as though he wants to go back and relive his life and do things right.

Both are beautiful and equally affecting in different ways, and convey emotions that everyone goes through, but at different stages in life.

The White Stripes – There's No Home For You Here Lyrics 19 years ago
I listened to this song turned up to 11 in my car over and over with the windows rolled down after my ex and I exchanged "fuck you"'s.

The last verse is probably my favorite.

I work with someone who used to work with Meg White at a bar in Royal Oak, and they were most definitely married. And apparently Jack is the scariest man in rock n' roll besides the guy from Nickelback.

I like the live versions of this song where Jack changes the lyrics to "Well, any fool with a microphone can tell ya what he loves the most..."

The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics 19 years ago
I was reading some book on the Beatles, and the author pointed out that this song has some similarities to "Answer Me My Love" by Nat King Cole...

You were mine yesterday
I believed that love was here to stay

They also pointed out some similarities in the chord progressions. I do believe this is the greatest rock n' roll song ever, though. It's played right after "Greensleeves," which has been around for how many hundreds of years, on the carrillon where I go to school. And if it's put in the same category as a song that timeless, then it has to be on a completely different level from every other song in the rock genre.

The Beatles – Here Comes the Sun Lyrics 20 years ago
My parents had a clock, and the alarm was an instrumental version of this song. So, every time I hear it, I think of being like 5 years old and listening to it in my parents' bedroom.

And I think this is George's best song, along with "Love You To."

The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows Lyrics 20 years ago
The lyrics were inspired by The Tibetan Book Of The Dead. Originally, John wanted his voice to sound like he was singing from the top of the Himalayas, and he wanted a bunch of Buddhist monks chanting in the background. Of course, they didn't have the money to do such a thing, and what you got is what you hear, which is spectacular anyway. And it was actually Macca who made and suggested that random loops be put into the song.
