I always thought of the Dancer as being a symbol of grace and beauty. That love can be construed as the answer to what is good and is peace, it is an end for which so few are willing to truly make sacrifices to achieve...maybe...

A sad but rather straight forward song about trying to move on after getting dumped and just trying to deal with his unrequited emotions.

Metallica – The Outlaw Torn Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that the use of "You make me smash the clock and feel," and "I'd rather die behind the wheel," are being taken far too literally, that it is referring more to the since of helplessness the narrator is feeling, that he has no control over his life and his world (which works well with James condition, just look at why things went down with Jason the way they did, he fears not having control), that he would rather die in control of his life than to live by fates decree. Aside from that, I think the rest has already been said.

You make me smash the clock and feel
I'd rather die behind the wheel
Time was never on my side
So on I wait my whole lifetime

Iron Maiden – Out of the Shadows Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, in context with the rest of the album being in some form or way related to war, I would take it to be how much pain, suffering, and misery there is in the world (princes of the Universe, your burden is the way), but despite this there is still beauty and hope as well (out of the shadow and into the sun representing that it is still possible to escape the misery that engulfs the world). But thats just me and I'm strange.

Bruce Dickinson – Silver Wings Lyrics 17 years ago
Obviously heavily inspired by High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr., an American pilot that volunteered to fly for the Canadians in WWII while the US was still neutral. He started composing that poem at around 30,000' while flying his spitfire aircraft. He died in a crash shortly after the US entered the war.

Bruce Dickinson – King In Crimson Lyrics 17 years ago
"See his twisted sons and daughters" comes before the reference to the King in Crimson, so while it could be referring to those of the King in Crimson, it could just as well be referring to the sons and daughters of man or God or about anything else. Going off of "The trembling world I now despise" in context with the rest of that verse it is easy to derive the same conclusion that Turbo came to, he once was drawn to this power however now hates it. The rest seems to be describing Hell and the power the King in Crimson has over everyone there.

Sry, I guess I realy do need to look into the background of things before I try to refute someone. That being so, could someone please explain the chorus, I still dont get the pagan and heaven to hell part. A 5, no crap, and I was proud of my 4, as for the history major part, same goes for me.

John Denver – Rocky Mountain High Lyrics 17 years ago
I grew up in the mountains (yes, california has mountains, realy big ones. and snow and glaciers, who'd have thought...) and just moved to the Fresno (which is very much not in the mountains) and its saddens me to see people that havent realy been out into the wilderness, that dont care about anything outside of urban life. Thats why I find this song so wonderful, some one going out and discovering there is more to life than their native concrete and asfault. To know its not their and to not ruin it by turning it into another city (a huge problem in california).

Iron Maiden – The Pilgrim Lyrics 17 years ago
"Spirit holy life eternal
Raise me up take me home
Pilgrim sunrise pagan sunset
Onward journey begun"

"Then will my judge appear
Bear no false angel that I hear
For only then I will confess
To my eternal hell"

Metalmaiden, you pompus ass, care to explaine these? I hate to critisize other peoples enterpretations, but your expression begs it. The crusade belief probaly arose from the second verse (however seemed to overlook the word eternal). Not to say your enterpretation is not plausable, however I still firmly retain my own, while knowing a hell of alot more about history than you.

Ya, its a shame this song doesnt get the attention id deservs, probaly one of may all time favs, but I understand why. How many songs did you hear during this part of the eighties about a guy going nuts and drowning himself? The tone and content wasnt what was "in" during the time it came out. More modern metal fans need to take a break from what they're hearing on the radio and go back and revisit what made metal what it is today, that way songs like these will get what they deserve!

Sonds like an internal battle between good and evil within the narrater. He tries to resist the evil, but over time he becomes to tired to fight and slowly begins to give in, thus forfieting his place in heaven for hell. Dunno, thats the best I can do at the moment.

We certanly can not disregard the connections to STS, however I believe these exist as a means of simply alluding to concepts form the last album. STS's tone is too incompatable and its story too complete to say the two are dirrectly related.

AFI – Endlessly, She Said Lyrics 17 years ago
Ya, the pronouns on most of the songs on this CD are like that. As for the theme being revisited in On the Arrow, yes and no. Yes they are undedniably linked, however if anything I would put that before Endlessy chronologicly. I believe On the Arrow is the action and this is the aftermath. In On the Arrow she tells him she will wait, but the narrorater doesnt believe her and simply left, here he comes back to find she did as he thought she would. If you havent already, I highly recoment looking into On the Arrow, it is highly relevent to this song.

AFI – On The Arrow Lyrics 17 years ago
Time for me to play smart.

This song begins with a fairly philosophical question, "who realy belongs here." Here as in a physical place in time, in a particular situation, or perhaps simply in existance.

"'Not I' she said, "I'd lie here with you"' she replies. Neither of them believe they do (obviously). Shes complacant, but as we soon see he doesnt believe her. He believes everything is transient, especialy love. She says she is true and that she will stay and wait for him, but he knows she wont (possible link to Endlessly, She Said?)

I believe this is about (aside from simply being another chapter of the album's story) someone whos fear of abandonment causes them to puch away anyone that gets too close. She sais she will wait, but his fear tells him that love can never last and that with the wind comes sorrow, with the winds depart her love for him. To him this is natural, the loss as normal as the wind and the pain it causes as sacred as any sacrement.

He abandons his sentement but still she waits, but eventualy she realises he has abandoned her and leaves, fulfilling his belief.

Or pherhaps not, I just felt like offering something.

Iron Maiden – The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg Lyrics 18 years ago
The following was found on http://www.benjaminbreeg.co.uk/ :

"Benjamin Breeg

Benjamin Breeg was born in London on September 3rd, 1939.
After the deaths of his parents in a house fire in September, 1947, Breeg was sent to an orphanage in the East End. The cause of the fatal fire, to this day, remains unexplained. Breeg himself was present in the house at the time but escaped unharmed.

He was a bright child but very solitary, prompting one of his carers at the orphanage to state: "He has the demeanour of a child who seems to bear more weight upon his shoulders than any person should. What goes on behind his eyes makes one wonder what's troubling him." As well as his academic interests, Breeg also became interested in The Bible and expressed a desire to join the clergy.

Breeg was fostered by three families between 1947 and 1950 but each time, he was returned to the orphanage, unable to settle in any of the new homes that had offered to raise him.It was on his tenth birthday in 1949, that he began to experience nightmares that he himself later described as "the most vile and tortuous I have ever endured." Despite this, he went on to develop incredible talent as an artist and produced a large number of drawings, sketches and paintings. However, none of these survive and are believed to have been destroyed by Breeg himself. To this day, no one knows why. The subjects of these paintings, however, supposedly caused great consternation and distress among those who Breeg allowed to view them.

The verdict of one close friend who saw some of Breeg's work is as follows: "He says he paints what he sees. If this is true, I can only thank God I have no window into his mind."

Breeg's first job on leaving the orphanage, in 1954, was at a local Undertakers, where he was given the task of engraving headstones. His interest in the Bible had by now turned into what a colleague deemed to be "obsessive". He lived alone and little is known about his life between 1955 and 1959 other than that his interest in joining the clergy diminished. His obsession with the Bible, however, did not.

Breeg travelled widely between 1960 and 1970, visiting many different countries. Living for two years in Haiti before travelling to Eastern Europe where he lived between 1966 and 1969. He was forced to flee from Romania in 1969 following local Police investigations. He returned to England in March 1971. Upon his return, he was offered a position with the International Institute of Paranormal Investigation which he accepted.

Breeg wrote four books between 1971 and 1977. None of these, as far as can be ascertained, remain in print. All, however, concern the sights and cultures Breeg experienced while travelling. The emphasis in all four volumes is on the Occult practices of the countries visited.

Benjamin Breeg disappeared from his home on June 18th, 1978. All efforts to locate him proved unsuccessful."

Iron Maiden – The Fallen Angel Lyrics 18 years ago
Nicely stated BIOhazard, and insightful depication, as always, RainbowDemon. But now time to combine the two. The use of Azazel was a very potent allusion, and greatly contributes to the society of Huxlies aclaimed novel. Notably, Azazel introduced vanity and new impuraties to the world, which John must confront. The rest of the world is consumed by the evils of Azazel, as depicted in the first verse. Ultimatly, John is the only one in this world that retains any piety, any knowlage and belief in God, and thus he is alone, however he feels himself fall into impurety because of the desires this 'new world' arouses in him. He flees London and in solitude offers prayers and self-mortification in exchange for the allieviation of his sins.

I thought it was 37mm as in a 37 mm camera lens.

This song is about someone that is physicaly/emotionaly empathic, that can obsorb anothers injeries, however in doing so suffers from the others allieviated affliction. Hence "Press me to your lips and I'll suck the poison out. Who will heal me? If you keep killing me how can I keep absolving?" where he describes his almost remorceful selfsacrafice for others.

I dont know about it being vamperic, but it is defenantly dark. Not like STS dark, but rather in some twisted since hopeful and resalved, if not tragic.

Dont forget:

"They were perfect, they were beautiful. They met in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of nothing, and kissed where everyone could see. No words. No before. No after. They just kissed and it was perfect. It was beautiful. It was everything. It was nothing."

And

"Eventuly it all comes back to this. Eventualy you have nothing else. Shame realy."
"May I get YOU something?"
"Get me anything"

Nice Bloodstrike. Its cool if you dont like the new album, thats just your taists, but please dont waist space on these forums complaining about it. Now for what we came here to do, analize what the songs about!

As of the moment, I cant say I have the slightest clue. Any ideas?
The verse
"Well the infinite times come
Just smile and all faith is gone
guess I was the one to
to sacrifice everything"
just kind of sticks out for some reason, it feels rather important... I dunno...

Who is he? Thats all we need to know, and the rest is simple. Miss Murder is far lesser, far smaller than 'him.' My bigest problem is how to link the verses and the bridge. Song rocks, of course, and I cant wait for the CD to come out, maybe it'll amswer a few questions.

AsItBegan makes a good point, but let me elaborate. The butterfly represents delicate beauty, perhapes even grace. The song sais that "if you truel love me show it by sacraficing this thing of beauty, and togeather we shall bring 'the gods' to thier knees with the weight of our crime.
