MC Frontalot – Indier Than Thou Lyrics

I don't think he's really promoting his own indieness. I'm instead leaning towards him relating the indie community to the self-promoting religious one, a community that is often degraded as hypocritical. Actually, screw leaning, he lays that out. Like yeah. |

The Ghost – The Exhibition Lyrics
|
Well then how about this - are we listening? The Ghost have something to say, i might say, and think they could help the world out. Yet they will not manipulate their way into being heard, they create art from the outside, and while they would like you to hear it, they remain polite about it. They do more for others than they do for themselves and they are calling for ears. |

Jets to Brazil – Orange Rhyming Dictionary Lyrics

personal thought: this could be about a (hopelessly) romantic's view of the world, where one holds out for that Perfect match (girl) that cannot exist due to the complexities of our language (thoughts, desires, communication). |

Ga. For some reason this song keeps trying to convince me it's some girl with eyes and hair. Oh movement. |

Spoon – Lines In The Suit Lyrics

the message in this really hurts me. everything about living a picture that someone else painted and how hard it is to live their life, how hard it is to live your own life in their world, and how we know it's that hard. and we're always wanting to hear something we don't know. one of the best lyriced songs i've ever heard. |

Harvey Danger – Jack The Lion Lyrics

I always wonder if this is about some old band fading away but playing a last show in new york... not a ton of basis behind that, but it kinda fits. WHO KNOWS!?!!? |

Spoon – All the Pretty Girls Go to the City Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
don't want to go, ya know, venturin' out on a limb or anything here, but, i'd say that it's possible that this song is commenting on society's obsession with looks, and how certain looking people have better chances of doing certain things, and how this closes off their opportunities, and everyone else's. |

The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics

I happen to think that things are actually going rather well for the narrator of the song. I just don't believe he thinks he deserves it. |

Jets to Brazil – Morning New Disease Lyrics

the best line i've ever heard: "and the robots in their riot gear glimmer in my rearview mirror." just beautiful. to me this song is talking about the disease of depression and society making it difficult to accomplish your dreams. |

He once told me: you write a song trying to come to terms with your pain, you end up having to play it every day for the rest of your life. |

Alkaline Trio – Donner Party Lyrics

I guess you could see this song as being a metaphor for a relationship, but i keep thinking of it as a message from Alk3 to their longtime fans about justifying 'selling out', a story continued from Mr. Chainsaw. The lyrics all make sense if you think of them in that context. |
