in the live version damien talks about how he wrote this song while it was raining when he was busking.. it was too wet to play so he sat in a shop window and sat and starting playing the chords and wrote it on the street.. he talks about how people started giving him money as he wrote it.. this song is clearly about how sometimes when your down you jus need to take yourself from the bottom shelf and place yourself looking for bigger and better things.. again about a girl and wanting them but them not wanting you at that point and how he says he'll wait for them if they want.. or is he just wasting his time? its a chance we all take |

this whole song is to do with the fact damien hates change, or so i have heard. the whole song talks about how people change and how they dont care anymore. the lines: "Older gents sit on the fence With their cap in hand Looking grand They watch their city change" this talks about older people sitting back and watching the place they knew change all around them into bigger things, a materealistic world where people care more about themselves than anyone else. also the lines: "Children scream, or so it seems, Louder than before Out of doors, and into stores with bigger names Mama tried to wash their faces But these kids they lost their graces" highlights the fact of change and how children have gone from playin in the street to going to big shopping centers and gettin introduced to newer things and not caring about the past. oh my god this song is brilliant.. its so about love and not being able to get it from the girl or guy you want so badly the lines: "i am in such a mess i can't cope without this she just teases me pretends she can't see me here" sums up love to me.. how it can make you feel like crap and feel its the end of the world and something we all want so badly.. and being deprived of it from the girl you love is just annoying.. to say the least |

this song is inspiration to me. i jus saw snow patrol at the QMU in glasgow on saturday and the whole crowd belted the chorus out at the end. i can relate to the lines : "Have heart my dear We're bound to be afraid Even if it's just for a few days Makin' up for all that's less" it reminds me of a girl i liked but due to complications with other people it never happened.. and we both liked each other at different times.. it was jus crap but i always remembered that line as if we could jus run away for a wee while and realise how much we seemed right for each other.. its a bit sad i know! but thats life |
