Rancid – Ghetto Box Lyrics | 17 years ago |
you know, its nice that people are posting lyrics on this site - but why would you post lyrics you aren't sure of? isn't that misleading everyone? *** "Ghetto Box" Ghetto box talking (time for the back streets) Cocaine's rocking (time for the back streets) And I'm not finished talking (time for the back streets) Rancid punks ain't stopping (time for the back streets) Let go of my hand I don't understand Street lights coming through Time for the back streets with you! Cadillac rolling (time for the back streets) Police are patrolling (time for the back streets) Is it safe where we're going? (time for the back streets) Mississippi highway (time for the back streets) Ripped a man apart with a K-9 unit Nazi cops fuck you! Time for the back streets with you. Ghetto Box talking (time for the back streets) Cocaine's rocking (time for the back streets) And the four were stalking (time for the back streets) Rancid punks ain't stopping (time for the back streets) Let go of my hand I don't understand Street lights coming through Time for the back streets with you! |
The Get Up Kids – Martyr Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just to get by try to stay high it's a good life end of discussion the hours like sand the holes in my hand I'm a good soul, Martyr me Wasting my life it's passing me by it's a good fight throw in the towel The hours I've spent aren't enough to pay rent I'm just sinking water deep But if all I have is defeat Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Case of my crime: a lack of my time it's a roadblock need a catharsis Patience is spent; a virtue I sent to the basement far from me The less that I spend on the mess that I'm in could be used towards something of value The time on my side isn't anything I've ever needed can't you see that all I have is defeat? Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Every unsuspecting scene when we're supposed to make believe that we're not tearing at the seams... We hang on, we hang on, we hang on Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake Tonight if you're awake at all Tonight if you're awake ------------------------------------ i love this song, cause it sounds like a sincere complaint about his own lifestyle. the holes in my hand: crucifixion reference; ties in with the 'martyr' theme. pretty much saying how he's just getting by and getting high and being sarcastic on how its a good life. he feels like he's wasting his life...and the whole 'tonight if you're awake at all' sounds like him writing this song about his shitty life and wanting to call his ex/have his ex call him for advice/comfort/validation, whatever...that's why he keeps saying it through the song. "the less that i spend on the mess that im in could be used towards somethin of value": the less money he has to pay back his debts with could be used towards something he really could use. but it's not that he needs time - more time won't help - cause all he's always had is defeat, see? he's feeling sorta hopeless here. |
Against Me! – What We Worked For Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Bouncing Souls – All of This and Nothing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is a short and sweet and to-the-point song about MTV. |
Bob Dylan – Maggie's Farm Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me, this song is about being a musician as opposed to having a career - Maggie's Farm being the corporate/working world - and he's not gonna work for Maggie's brother, her pa, her ma - no one. He just talks about shitty things bosses do to you and how they are, in this fictitious satirical way. and then at the end he sings "They say sing while you slave, and I just get bored. I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more." he can't just play music and work, it's too boring - he needs to be a full time musician - he can't work on the farm anymore. |
The Suicide Machines – Bleeding Heart Lyrics | 19 years ago |
And my heart is all mine And my mind is free That's all the revolution, revelation that I need. what else can you say? a small yet amazing piece. i was listening to this in my car, loud, and with the windows down...and i felt invincible. |
311 – Random Lyrics | 19 years ago |
hahah...hello everyone? the song is called Random lol. There isn't a theme. It's a bunch of cool lyrics and rhymes. I think 311 does this often; most of their songs have a theme or message...but certain songs, like this one for example, are just fun and full of funny hooks and what not. "I reserve the right to be as trite as I want and you can lick but don't bite I toss you here to Vermont" Sing that once and tell me it's not fun. BTW, that last line is obviously fellatio related. Hey, 311 is allowed to be fun, right? |
311 – Six Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"there are so many, this land of plenty the things we lack straight square within our grasp" - So true...most American's are lucky to say that they live a better life than poverty, but were always looking to get more. This line reminds me how the things we need are all around us, and inside of us...strraight square within our grasp. "We spend our lives learning, if you like learning, life is large it could never be only the ups and the downs will always come around like a drive through Estes park you savor the sun but when the clouds come make animals" -- That's awesome. Probably a very crucial and overlooked quote. Basically, in order to stay positive, you need to acknowledge that you cannot have bad times without the good...and that instead of being bogged down by a cloudy day, you can have fun and make animals in your imagination. It's all in how you see it. 311 is genius for incorporating such fundamentally positive ways of thinking in an era where most lyrics are just garbage. |
Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards – Viking Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i can't believe no one commented on this song yet. probably some of the most sincere and straighforward lyrics i've readin a long time. the best thing to listen to when you're feeling down - cause it just lets you know that everyone has their highs and lows. i never saw this side of Lars - musically and lyrically. this song is great. |
The Rolling Stones – You Can't Always Get What You Want Lyrics | 19 years ago |
OK...well, everyones got these crazy whacked out stories, but what this song has always meant to me: Basically, this song is about how not achieving your goal isn't necessarily a loss – for maybe you saved yourself from something bad and/or learned a lesson. That’s the message he’s giving over and over again in the song. Case in point: The woman. Mick paints a picture of a woman, and himself as a footloose man…someone kind of anxious and or nervous to meet her. Towards the end of the song, we revisit the woman and we see her as deceitful and villainous – how she kind of has this blood and this other man in her hands. Mick didn’t get the girl, but he got what he needed – a lesson that appearances can be deceiving. The protest verse illustrates that even though the protestors may not achieve their goals…they sing, vent their frustrations. They may not get what they want, but they got what they needed – a platform to express their opinions. The drugstore verse illustrates how this Jimmy guy is waiting to for pills to keep him alive (could also be a narcotic reference as well lol). Mick meets up with him and the boys share a sweet drink to pass the time. Mick “sang his song” about enjoying the moment, to Jimmy…to where Jimmy basically responds that he needs to get these pills to stay alive…to where Mick replies: You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes you just might find You get what you need Whew ;) |
Blind Melon – St. Andrew's Fall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
What's the three armed man thing mean? Is that possibly a reference to the father, son and holy spirit? |
Sunny Day Real Estate – Killed By An Angel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
OK...I'm all for everyone expressing their opinions, esp. on a forum like this...but to think that this whole song revolves around a small allusion to Cain and Abel is ridiculous...lol This song is definetly about hallucenogens, or drug addiction in general. And here's why: The whole Abel thing is supposed to emphasize how you cannot even trust your own brother, in the world of drugs. "Crooked deals can keep you wealthy" - Drug dealing. "Serum vails to help you when you're sad" - It's spelled "vials" but, yea, that's heroin needles. "Relax and all these whores will lick the membrane" - Membrane is skin, so this all conjures up imagery of some guy buying hookers...the seedy life of a junkie. The chorus basically alludes to the angel being your drug of choice...and how it may seem beautiful, this drug may be killing you - but you don't care...being "lost inside amazing colors". |
ThrowDown – Raise Your Fist Lyrics | 19 years ago |
wow. those are fucking awesome lyrics. people...you need to read that ^^^^^^ |
E-Town Concrete – Dirty Jer-z Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is definetly about a drug dealer, and how he's hated on by some people, as well as adored by many kids. This song is paints a picture of a person dealing crack...oblivious to how his actions affect those around him. Perfect title. |
E-Town Concrete – First Born Lyrics | 19 years ago |
wow, i never thought of that ^^^...and i think she is right... I love this site. |
E-Town Concrete – Guaranteed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I wish this song was posted with some spaces and indentations, cause people will definetly skip reading these lyrics, but they're amazing. This song is one I can sing back to front. Like most etown, its easy to identify with the lyrics, and this is no exception. I remember even shedding a few tears listening to this once. That's how you know a song has substance. It's a shame no one has posted here. Anyway, yea...this song is about Anthony growing up and the negative things he was told as a youth. Come 2nd verse, he speaks about his similar struggles as an adult...he ends with optomism and a guarantee... |
E-Town Concrete – The Phoenix Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amazing song. Always skipped it by b/c I didn't like the synthesizer in the beginning. My mistake, completely. This song has some great lyrics, and his flow is tight - as usual. Anthony Martini is someone I definetly look up to as a wordsmith and singer. This song is pretty self-explanatory...he speaks about his beliefs and focusing his goals. The title of this song speaks for itself. |
Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Woohoo! First to post! Ahem. This song has a pretty apparent meaning...Billie is speaking about the current state of America - how it's controlled by the media, and how it controls it's citizens by means of paranoia, etc. A catchy, anthemic song that is relevant to our times. |
Ben Folds Five – Air Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I GOT IT: The meaning is very simple...it's about someone who drowns in water, his friend goes through attempting to save him...he was obviosuly dead, and the narrorator sees two of himself in those vacant eyes. The narrorator, being so distraught over it all, tries talking to the victim, while the people around him try to console the narrorator, attempting to make him realize that his best friend is gone. |
Strife – Force Of Change Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is amazing. I heard in on a Victory Records comp, and it floored me. The musical changes in this song are great, like when he says "a growing force of change". Anyways, this song is pretty straightforward, and I def. agree with the above comment. This song is inspirational and uplifting. I love positive hardcore. |
Len – Steal My Sunshine Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Len – Steal My Sunshine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Where they hell doesn anyone get an idea of "pregnancy" from this song? |
Toad the Wet Sprocket – All I Want Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Damn, that' so true. This is the kind of stuff that got me started on music when I was young. Damn...I was like in 3rd - 4th grade when I heard this. Even then, I felt the strong sense of melody in this song. The chorus gave me a chill that I never experienced back then...and now have come to appreciate, love and seek. |
ThrowDown – Raise Your Fist Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Ahh, all these stupid posts by 15 yr old kids made me realize why I left sXe. Yea, bring it on. I claimed sxe for 4 years. It was a great experience until I realized that labels seperate you from people. What's the point? To be part of "a movement"? If any of you kids know who Ian Mackaye is, than you should know that a "movement" is the last thing he wanted. On the same token, I don't knock anyone for being sXe. It honestly was one of the best things that happened to me. My only beef with it is the sxe elitists, who think that they're better than everyone else. News flash - everyones got a vice. Hey you, nazi sxe kid, it is good that you don't smoke or drink. But do you overeat? promote violence? promote emotional self destruction to others? Well guess what...those things can be more harmful to yourself and other more than a good kid who drinks every now and then. Wise up. You're no better than anyone. And by the way, even after i de-claimed, I have never smoke or drank...to this day. And I didn't need no X on my hand to stay true to my own beliefs. If sxe keeps you in check, than live it up...but never at anyone elses expense. |
Rancid – 1998 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Agg. I hate when people come here and post "Yea man I love this band"...yea we know you do, idiot. This is called SongMeanings.net Anyway, I do agree - this song is great. If anyone knows anything about Rancid, it's that a lot of their songs are based on stories they hear or people they know. (ie - "Arrested in Shang-Hai") This song seems to be about a kid who left home and gets addicted to drugs. It looks like Tim is writing this about a guy named Sidney, whom he must've met in 1998 while Rancid was in NYC. (b/c he couldn't have met in '74 or '76). |
Third Eye Blind – Motorcycle Drive By Lyrics | 20 years ago |
btw, anyone know what the title means? I don't get it... |
Third Eye Blind – Motorcycle Drive By Lyrics | 20 years ago |
One of the best 3eb songs. Gives a great atmosphere...and yea, it's definetley about a break up lol. I'm listening to it right now, for the 5th time in a row. Arion is great in this song...make sure your bass is up. |
Thrice – Stare At The Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is a great song. Very spiritual and definetly about searching for a path - studying both scholars and saints (religion) to find the answer(s) to life. I was confused about him cracking his teeth on pearls, but I believe the "pearls" are rosary. Think so? |
