AC/DC – Let There Be Rock Lyrics 19 years ago
no one can agree which artist began rock n roll...but unless there's a Tchaikovsky other than the Russian classical composer I wouldn't have imagined many would have put that name forward........huh?

Powderfinger – The Day You Come Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm sure it wasn't intended, but I'd been listening to this song for ages without having any idea what the actual chorus meant, but then it kinda clicked and it seems to be talking about the second coming of christ and how globalisation, consumerism and other modern evils has already buggered the world up beyond repair

Bob Dylan – Shelter from the Storm Lyrics 19 years ago
One doesn't have to be a Christian to include biblical references in their songs...and "crown of thorns" is just about the most blatant biblical reference you could possibly imagine. But having said that, it doesn't mean he's comparing himself to Jesus to say that she "took my crown of thorns"- Hell, Jesus didn't have anyone to take his crown of thorns. Dylan's clearly using a biblical reference simply to refer to a heavy burden of any variety

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm not gonna enter the argument as to whether yoko killed the beatles, but I have to disagree with anyone who thinks john's strong pro-peace stance late in his career (and life) was anything but very very cool

LL Cool J – Imagine That Lyrics 20 years ago
what a wanky song

Rolf Harris – Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport Lyrics 20 years ago
abo is often used as a derogatory term, and while the verse is not anti-aboriginal it was considered politically incorrect and has been removed from the song in recent years (in australia when this song was written racism was rampant)

The Rolling Stones – Angie Lyrics 20 years ago
the greatest stones song

Bob Marley and the Wailers – No Woman No Cry Lyrics 20 years ago
"Oh my little sister don't shed no tears"
I can't believe the fact that "no woman no cry" means "no woman, don't cry" (as it's been translated to previously on this page) wasn't completely obvious to everyone.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – No Woman No Cry Lyrics 20 years ago
i personally, don't think "no woman no cry" is a love song, however, I know enough about bob to know that "is this love" is.

John Lennon – Give Peace a Chance Lyrics 20 years ago
...and when someone is willing to give their life and reputation he is dismissed as idealistic and ignorant- which is ironically only the case for as long as the majority of people take that stance

John Lennon – Give Peace a Chance Lyrics 20 years ago
lennon is awesome, best beatle hands down.
and laun39- I think there are plenty of people who share your opinion, but not enough people are willing to do anything for it

John Lennon – My Mummy's Dead Lyrics 20 years ago
this was written by lennon, but it should be under "the beatles", not "john lennon"

submissions
Elton John – Bennie And The Jets Lyrics 20 years ago
insane412- elton is a legend, but I'm afraid he only writes the tunes to his songs, not the lyrics.
most lyrics are written by bernie taupin

[spunge] – No Woman No Cry Lyrics 20 years ago
I've never heard of spunge before...are you telling me they do a classic bob song justice? because if so I've gotta hear this

The Beatles – Across the Universe Lyrics 20 years ago
john sang it...and he wrote it too (all songs written by either Lennon OR McCartney (or both) are attributed to Lennon McCartney metallicaman)

submissions
Queen – Somebody To Love Lyrics 20 years ago
I hate to say it, but the live version with george michael is even cooler than freddie's version. I never thought I'd say that any version of a song freddie's performed would be better than his
oh well, it's still his song...since he wrote it

submissions
Queen – I Want It All Lyrics 20 years ago
brilliant song! deserves much more than 3 posts. I think it's about the rat race and how selfish it makes everyone

submissions
The Beatles – Johnny B. Goode (Chuck Berry cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
this is hardly a beatles song...even if they did cover it

The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics 20 years ago
a lack of education perhaps? "wrote by paul"?

submissions
The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics 20 years ago
mrs beatles- I'm directly responding to young and desperate, hence why I'm writing on this page. I'm not talking about john or paul's dream- I'm talking about the communist dream. Is that really too hard to understand?

Blink-182 – Dammit Lyrics 20 years ago
ok, being an ex-blink fan and getting a lot of shit for having liked them (that's not the reason I stopped- I stopped liking them before anyone said anything to me) I would like to share my 2 cents on them (for anyone with enough free time to bother listening).
ok, here goes...
1) blink are not sell outs, they're in it for the money, but so is everyone else- don't kid yourself
2) blink 182 AREN'T punk rock. they WERE pop-rock from enema of the state backwards and while that's hardly a complex genre they did it very very well (the best).
3) blink 182 tried to become more complex and dark (personally I blame it on the losers who complained they weren't hardcore enough) and ultimately failed
4) their jokes aren't funny

Blink-182 – Dammit Lyrics 20 years ago
naziracist- I know you're joking...but it's not funny

The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Lyrics 20 years ago
to be honest, plenty of songs on the album are awesome (a day in the life!), but this song is very overrated (not bad, but nothing special)

submissions
The Beatles – Hey Jude Lyrics 20 years ago
from paul to julian about john leaving cynthia? I don't think that's right. then what's meant by the lyric "You were made to go out and get her" among others? sounds to me like it was paul writing for john encouraging him to court yoko (I bet he'd regret it now if he hadn't made so much money from the song)...and doesn't jude translate to john is some language?

submissions
The Beatles – The Ballad of John and Yoko Lyrics 20 years ago
turtonhot- I noticed that too.
"CHRIST you know it ain't easy you know how hard it can be, the way things are going their going to crucify me"
...I doubt it's coincidence, especially with the whole "bigger than jesus" thing. could anyone tell me when this song was written in relation to him making the bigger than jesus comment?

submissions
The Beatles – Yesterday Lyrics 20 years ago
1. this song's good but not as good as you all seem to think
2. young and desperate- a communist idiot? lennon? damn you're narrowminded. He has a dream of equality- one that fits in with the communist dream. sure, communism doesn't have a fantstic history of working, but the dream itself is far superior to the capitalist one. will you believe any crap your government feeds you if they say it often enough?

submissions
John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics 20 years ago
in response to mixmastermatty's first post (yes, I know it was a while ago)- sounds like you don't know anything about lennon. he was a staunch believer in world peace, but he was also bitter at how little anyone else seemed to care. perhaps he too considered imagine an unrealistic dream

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 20 years ago
ophelia219- you're an idiot. all good songs are poetry and poetry has meaning. anyone who's not a complete simpleton enjoys poetry more when they know (and in turn can make their own interrpretation of) its meaning. seems to me like you're the only one who should shut the f*ck up

by the way, no one seems to have put forward a suggestion for what the song means as a whole. Personally I think it's critiquing how disconnected people are from significant events (suggesting, for example that the allies winning the war is nothing more than a fictional movie). The rhythm of paul's verse suggests we're all in too involved in the rat race to care about stuff that really matters
