N.W.A. – Express Yourself Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Haha this is like a joke...Dre rapping about not doing drugs? Okay... |
Bloodhound Gang – The Bad Touch Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Most of you people don't even know any other songs by the Bloodhound Gang...they're funny and blunt, that's the point. |
Dead Kennedys – Viva Las Vegas Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is an awesome book and movie. Hunter S. Thompson was the shit and I thought he OD'd, not killed himself? Johnny Depp also did an awesome job at portraying him in the movie. |
AFI – No Poetic Device Lyrics | 18 years ago |
WHY DOES EVERYBODY THINK EVERY AFI SONG IS ABOUT RELIGION? He was dreaming. He was lucid. What the fuck does that have to do with Jesus Christ? NOTHING. Ever heard of LUCID DREAMING? Thank you. |
AFI – The Lost Souls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't see how this has anything to do with religion. It's fucking love, plain and simple. |
AFI – Dream Of Waking Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is definately about sleep paralysis. Anyone who has experienced it would know. Case closed. |
Aaliyah – Rock The Boat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I just want to point out that sex isn't slutty, it's a natural and beautiful thing and this song isn't about a gangbang, it's about sex with one person, so get over it. And for the people who are saying this music is 'mainstream' blah blah shut the fuck up because nobody cares. Go listen to your 'underground' music and pretend like you have some advanced knowledge of music. Truly intelligent people will laugh at you for being so ignorant. Music is mainstream. Mainstream, underground, who gives a shit?! If anyone pays attention to trends, it's you because you're so against them and purposely state 'controversial' statements about "pissing on Aaliyah's grave"...yeah real mature people. Oh let's hate on something popular just to go 'against the grain'. Ohh aren't you soo rebelious...please...grow up. |
Cibo Matto – Sugar Water Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yeah sounds like they're either tripping on drugs or just mind-tripping, very imaginative "the velocity of time turns her voice into sugar water" makes me think they're on something though, yeah now i wanna trip out and listen to this, bet it will make perfect sense...does anyway if you have an imagination though. |
311 – Creatures (For a While) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Dumbasses this song isn't about drugs or alcohol or masturbation" To me it seems like this is about someone with a Bipolar personality...it fits perfectly...Manic...Depression... If you'd prefer not to think about it in those terms, it doesn't have to labeled but it's someone with mood swings/split personality The first verse is about Manias "I'd surely like to rest but the energy gets the best of me" "I can't slow down inside" These are indications that he does not have control during the Manic state The second verse is about Depression "I land on earth's hard face, no legs could keep that pace" After the Manic state, one has no choice but to go into Depression...nobody can stay in the Manic state forever "I'm not used to it, you'd think I'd be by now The ins the outs the ups and the downs" He's not used to the mood swings even though he's had to deal with it for so long, they still always come so suddenly... The chourus is basically losing all control, these "creatures" take over and he can't control it, during this time he disregards all consequences and does whatever makes him feel better (make a mess, blow off stress, stoke the fire) but only for a while, later regret will come... "It's something one won't understand unless they're in it with me hand in hand" This suggests that he's been misunderstood a lot as people who don't go through similar things don't understand how someone can shift moods like that and lose control... Though it does say "Sometimes I go a little crazy just like you I do..." which makes it like everyone goes through it sometimes, well yeah everyone does, but not to the same degree Anyone who says this song is about alcohol or drugs obviously doesn't get it and can't relate, if you think alcohol and drugs are the only things that can make someone this way...some people actually are like it all the time and don't have real control over the mood swings...not saying you have to be bipolar to relate to this song, anyone who has had mood swings major or minor can but when it's like your life story then yeah... |
Beck – Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it's "put it out with the dark sunglasses" not cheap sunglasses |
Beck – Devil's Haircut Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Even if the lyrics don't seemingly make sense, there's always a way to connect them and apply meaning even if it's vague...it's like pulling something from somewhere and putting it somewhere else where it doesn't seem like it should belong, but it works. Sometimes you don't have to understand something to 'understand' it...you get a basis gist of what it's about...whatever it makes you think of, whatever images come to your head, that's what it's about...not one specific thing, just everything... |
Anna Nalick – Breathe (2 A.M.) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is really good stuff...I love the lyrics, they remind me of Bright Eyes and that is quite a compliment...I look forward to hearing more from this girl, she's very talented. |
Bright Eyes – Bowl of Oranges Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't think this song is totally happy...yeah it's more hopeful than a lot of the pessimistic songs, but it still makes me cry and it's not self pity...I think it's just his voice, he could sing about flowers and sunshine and butterflies but he always seems to sound like he's about to cry and that rubs off. |
Modest Mouse – Gravity Rides Everything Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is such a calming song. I basically agree with "yalls"'s definition. It's a pretty simple song to me, it kind of reminds me of "Float On"...everything will fall into place, we'll all float on, it's just very positive which isn't too common for Modest Mouse but sometimes you just need that to keep things in perspective. |
Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It kind of sucks that Modest Mouse is becoming popular because all these little new found scene kids listen to them and I can't see them having as deep of an appreciation for the lyrics as I do. Whatever though, the music is still good, and they can't help who their fans are. What bothers me more than their new fans is the people who have never heard them until they got on MTV and now think it's cool to insult them because they're popular. I hear people talking about how they hate Modest Mouse and I know it's just an opinion but it still makes me angry because they have been working hard on their music for years and people just hear a few songs and think they can shrug them off as mainstream garbage. Fuck people like that. |
Modest Mouse – 3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monsters Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think he was stoned when he wrote it... |
Modest Mouse – Blame It on the Tetons Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Ew I don't understand what's with you people and not liking this song. "sight is just a window from the room we're bound to. If you find a way out, oh would you just let me know how?" "Everyone's a building burning with no one to put the fire out. Standing at the window looking out, waiting for time to burn us down." Um these are really good lyrics. |
Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Wow. I didn't read all the comments, I just skimmed through them. I can't believe that there are this many people that actually think this is a good song. "LIEK OMG THIS SONG IZ LIEK SO KEWL CUZ IM LIEK A KEWL SK8ER GURL N SK8ER BOIZ R LIEK SO HAWT. DIZ SONG IZ LIEK SAYEN PHUK U 2 ALL DA DUM PREPZ HOO THINK THEY R KEWLZ. BUT THEY R NOT RELE KEWLZ CUZ PUNX RULZ!1!!11 IM SO GLAD THER IZ A KEWL PUNX SK8ER GURL ON MTV!!!1111!! SHE IZ REEL UNLIEK DA UTHA POP STARZ YA SHE RULZ SHEZ MAH ROLE MODEL!!1!!11!" Get over it, you sheltered little kids. LFO has written better lyrics than this. He was a skater BOY She said see ya later BOY Omgz, how deep. Boy doesn't rhyme with boy genius, THEY'RE THE SAME FUCKING WORD. The only reason you think Avril is good is because you're used to listening to Britney Spears. Avril is percieved as "different" and "edgy", so you impressionable kids are drawn to her. Wearing baggy pants and skateboarding has nothing to do with being "punk". You people are so ignorant, it's disgusting. It's people like Avril that are running society into the ground by brainwashing our youth. No one wants to see a bunch of 12 year old girls walking around with baggy pants on and their middle fingers up. Obnoxious little twats. That's what Avril and all her little clones are. |
12 Stones – Broken Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Wow. That's really messed up if you hate a band because the members are Christian and they said one little curse word. Are you going to say that you've never uttered a curse word in your life? CHRISTIANS AREN'T PERFECT. And what is the big deal of whether or not they're Christian anyway? If you like the music, their personal beliefs should not alter your opinion of the band. Also, I think this song is about him on the verge of losing faith, and so he's asking God for help. He needs his guidance to help him get back on the right track. I'm not Christian, but I still appreciate the lyrics of this song. Christianity is one of the many possibilities (I'm Agnostic), and sometimes I feel that if it is true I have betrayed God by living the way that I do. In desperation, sometimes I even pray halfheartedly, because I don't even know if there is anything out there...but just in case... Anyway, the point of all that was saying that you don't need to be Christian to appreciate this song. You don't even have to think of it as God, just think of it as some outside force of good. |
Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is a lot different than some of their older stuff, but it puts me in a really good mood every time I hear it. |
Bright Eyes – A Perfect Sonnet Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Actually...not an amazing lyricist, but an exceptionally good one. He doesn't compare to Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse. Well, in my opinion. (obviously) Some of you people go too far with worshipping Conor. He's a good lyricist, but he should not be PRESIDENT and he is NOT GOD. Get a grip. |
Bright Eyes – A Perfect Sonnet Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This could be a beautiful song, if somebody else sang it. Conor is an amazing lyricist, but a horrible singer. I wish I could like Bright Eyes, I really do...but I think I'm just allergic to them because I can't listen to them without wanting to throw up. I can read his lyrics, just can't listen to them. I think Conor Oberst should write a book of poems or something. |
Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is obviously about someone who is sick of getting hurt so he turns to sex without love and drugs to satisfy him. It's very well done, and it's one of the few Bright Eyes songs in which I can listen to without getting an urge to stab Conor in the throat. |
Bright Eyes – The Big Picture Lyrics | 20 years ago |
These are good lyrics, too bad Conor Oberst ruins the song with his horrible shaking voice. |
Modest Mouse – Doin' the Cockroach Lyrics | 20 years ago |
and yeah I like scalewagjim's interpretation...I didn't think of the cockroach part as anything significant, but now that I think about it it makes a lot of sense. "I was in heaven I was in hell Believe in neither But fear them as well" Those are my favorite lines |
Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Why does everyone compare Modest Mouse to Bright Eyes? They're nothing alike, in my opinion. |
Modest Mouse – I Came as a Rat (Long Walk Off a Short Dock) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Hahaha Brak...now I keep imagining Brak singing it, that's great... |
Modest Mouse – Doin' the Cockroach Lyrics | 20 years ago |
hahaha they do sound like Brak sometimes |
Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Whoever said that thing about "emo kids"... People write lyrics to let out their feelings, and everyone has negative feelings sometimes. You don't have to be sad all the time to appreciate them. Whoever said this song is about killing yourself...umm no. "Oh noose tied myself too tight" is used metaphorically, not literally. I think what this song is about is... you're bored with your life, so you blame everyone else...but then you realize that it's your own fault. You realize that you don't really know who you are anymore. You change your mind all the time, you contradict yourself, you're a hypocrite. You say things that you think you mean at the time, but you'll probably change your mind later. You're changing all the time, and you can't even trust yourself anymore. "Talking shit about a pretty sunset" I thought was more about himself...he's been complaining a lot lately and hasn't been appreciating the small things, but now realizes that he should. The only line I don't understand is "Looking kind of anxious in your cross armed stance Like a bad tempered prom queen at a homecoming dance" I thought the song was more about self-revelations, so I'm not sure where another person comes in. |
Modest Mouse – So Much Beauty in Dirt Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Screwing god?? What the hell... I think it's just about enjoying yourself and having a good time...even though your life may not be perfect, you're not rich, but if you can find beauty and fun in the small things then you're better off. |
Modest Mouse – Wild Packs of Family Dogs Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I don't think it neccessarily means that he doesn't care, it just means that he is a bit apathetic towards it because there is nothing he can do about it so he might as well just accept it. I like dancing's religious interpretation...it might have nothing to do with that, but it's an interesting way of thinking about it. Either way, it's a great song. |
