Talking Heads – Heaven Lyrics

Just reading the words, either interpretation fits. I think DB left it ambiguous on purpose. The music, however, makes me think it's saying that nothing ever happening would be a good thing (especially considering how many other Talking Heads songs seem to have to do with being overwhelmed by too much going on). |

David Bowie – Saviour Machine Lyrics

The machine was right, in a way: what's a world where people don't have to deal with their own problems? A world of children, that's what, which is bad. So it addresses that by becoming an enemy for the people to face. |

Tori Amos – Yes, Anastasia Lyrics
|
To me the song seems to be about facing one's past in order to start living again. Like Anastasia returning to Russia. I think "her blood's on my hands" refers to the person she was (or had become), which she destroys on her way "back to the garden". I don't explain this well, do I?
I love that one line "There's something we left on the windowsill" - the whole song is just beautiful. |

David Bowie – Warszawa Lyrics

I don't think there is one. I'm pretty sure it's just made-up Polish meant to fit the music (as Subterraneans was made-up English?) |

A nod to Koncord for his most excellent post - and a reminder that these lyrics were in fact written by Iggy Pop. Sorry. |

Pink Floyd – Young Lust Lyrics

Kafziel, I think you're wrong about something - Pink doesn't realize that empty sex won't help him. He's just turning to whatever he can find to distract himself, trying to forget his troubles. "Would your next thought be 'I need a dirty woman'?" His would be - or alcohol or drugs etc. |

Duran Duran – The Reflex Lyrics

Nah, not masterbation. Definately sex.
"But I'm dancing on the valentine"
"If I should find a helping hand"
"So why don't *you* use it?"
"The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark"
Clearly another life form is invloved. |

David Bowie – Teenage Wildlife Lyrics
|
About the nasty side of fame - the fear of being hunted. He feels like some sort of wild game being persued.
"Don't ask me, I don't know any hallways." = I don't know how to handle this any better than you do. The "you" could be some up-and-coming star who will also be treated as a freak.
I'd love to connect it to the death of John Lennon, except that I'm pretty sure the song was written before then. Who's that guy who keeps insisting that Bowie's some sort of psychic? Take it from here, meaningman. |

The Rolling Stones – Beast Of Burden Lyrics

When I was young, I thought Mick was singing "I'll never leave your pizza burning." Now, if he'd just said that, and if I were the girl, I'd be with him in a heartbeat. |

The Who – Pinball Wizard Lyrics

Someone brought this up to me, and I'm repeating it here because it's worth a shot: could Tommy possibly be autistic (rather than deaf and blind)? The album never says that, but it would explain the pinball thing. |

David Bowie – Heroes Lyrics

This is the full version on the album, aphekgs.
I wouldn't call it a happy song at all. The last verse says that the forces keeping the lovers apart are stronger than they are and admits they can only settle for being "safer". (The title is actually supposed to be in quotes; I think that's why.) |

LSD = for people with lazy minds who can't think like this on thier own. Sheesh, does no one appreciate childlike imaginings anymore?
Song = brilliance. |
