Jack's Mannequin – Cellular Phone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Rockets drop from dusk till dawn I won't be shaken Should they take me in the night Don't think my signal's faded for you"" |
Jack's Mannequin – Caves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Beat my body like a rag doll you stuck the needles in my hip said we're not gonna lie son, you just might die get you on that morphine drip, drip" "As far as I can see Walls are caving in Doors got locked for sure But I see these doors have keys" |
Jack's Mannequin – Swim Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Swim You gotta swim Swim in the dark The ocean is drifting Feel the tide shifting and wait for the spark Yeah you gotta swim Don't let yourself sink Just find the horizon I promise you it's not as far as you'd think The currents will drag us away from our love Just keep your head above" |
Jack's Mannequin – Caves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I'm caught, somewhere in between, a life and living the dream. No peace, just clicking machines, In the quiet of compazine The walls caved in on me." "marrows collide in rebirth" I'm pretty sure my corrections above are correct. He's definitely saying "compazine" though, it's an anti-nausea medication sometimes given to cancer patients. Beautiful song. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Grapevine Fires Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Not that these interpretations aren't correct, but for anyone not from southern CA, the "grapevine" references actually have a pretty simple explanation. There's an area along the 5 highway known as the "Grapevine" that is prone to fires (I've driven through it with both sides of the highway on fire. It's an intense experience). The first time I heard this song and heard the first few lines I immediately wondered if it was a reference to that/the southern CA fires last year. |
The Honorary Title – Stuck at Sea Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Jarrod doesn't actually think it sucks. He was joking and the interviewer didn't get it. |
Sara Bareilles – Love Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Actually, the song is written as a bit of a "fuck you" to her record label. They were pushing her to write her "love song" and she was trying to resist it, so she wrote this instead. The real story makes me love her and the song even more. |
Josh Kelley – Lydia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It is. Lydia was his little sister who passed away, although I don't know how or when. |
Jack's Mannequin – Rescued Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well, as far as the first verse goes, here's my interpretation: He's stuck in the moment of his breakup with his long term relationship. They've known it had to end for a while now, that it was too fragile to withstand all the distance, but held on anyway. He has to leave again and she can't take it, can't stand for him to leave her behind yet again to go back on tour. He's trying to reassure her that if he could he'd be with her forever, but it's just not enough, and even though she's trying to be strong, her lips are trembling and he can tell it's all an act. As far as the rest of the song goes, I'm not entirely sure how to piece it all together, but here goes with a try: So he's still stuck in this moment of his relationship ending, but he loves his girlfriend so much that he'd rather stay in the storm of the breakup than take the easy way out and get on the plane and head back to his touring lifestyle. He realizes that, in the end, he's going to choose touring and his music over her, but he's so in love with her that, at the same time, he can't imagine leaving her. "And it's unclear, but this could be my last song" Perhaps this part was Andrew considering giving up music entirely for his girlfriend. The end just seems to be Andrew thinking over in his head everything that his girlfriend has or is willing to give up for him, and that ultimately he needs her with him for his life to be okay. Sorry y'all, that was kind of jumbled and I'm not sure it all made sense together, but I tried. |
Jack's Mannequin – Bruised Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well, since the album is about returning to SoCal after 3 years of straight touring with Something Corporate, and coming to the realization that his friends and loved ones have changed while he's been gone, I think a fairly safe interpretation would be this: Andrew has returned home from touring, but only for a short break. He's spent the time with his girlfriend and now he has to leave her again, but he knows how upset she is at his leaving and it breaks his heart to go. He's begging the pilot to keep the plane steady because it's the last thing that he has that connects him to his girl. He knows that this is the way his life is always going to be, and he wants her to be happy, so he tells her to live her life, and not be caught up in missing him. But at the same time he wants her to know that he still loves her and wants her, and that if she wants him back then he'll be waiting for her. Oh, and the "sometimes perfection can be, can be perfect hell" part is lyrically correct. |
Something Corporate – Ben Franklin's Kite Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Regardess of whether Andrew was talking about drugs or cancer, this song is now more meaningful than ever. Maverick Records just announced today that Andrew has been diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia. If the song didn't make me want to cry before, it sure as hell does now. |
Gavin DeGraw – Relative Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"This song is about everything being related to everything else" -Gavin Degraw (I wanna say he said that at the FleetCenter show in Boston) So Jess, I completely agree with you. :-) |
Gavin DeGraw – She Holds a Key Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The "If god give em all" line is actually "you've counted them all" saying that the person has no more blessings left. This song is about a married woman who either cheats or is tempted to cheat. Gavin has explained it before but I don't remember exactly what his explanation was. Also, for the chorus (and this changes the song quite a bit) it goes: "She holds a key tight in her hand clutching his neck she is begging her man" Still love this song though! |
Matt Nathanson – Lost Myself In Search Of You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"I guess insecurities catch up to you when you're stupid and you f**king lie, WHORE" Can't beat lyrics like that. |
Jason Mraz – 0% Interest Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is amazing, it's one of my favorite Mraz songs. The best lines are: "Well it's not even being about that anymore, I gotta get you down, those tiny fragments of perfection, they please me in a time, unchanged, when it's not the same, beginning, or a long awaited end..." I think that these lines are talking about enjoying the simple pleaseure in life. It's the little things in a relationship that often count the most. Even when things aren't perfect you can go back to those memories that made you happy. And I think that his reference to the Rock of Gibraltar is referring to someone being steadfast and strong. The Rock of Gibraltar "guards" the entrance to the Straight of Gibraltar and is one of the Pillars of Hercules. |

Dispatch – Carry You Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This isn't really my view of the song, just some info... most people don't know this (maybe you guys do), but this actually isn't a song by Dispatch. This is a song from Pete Francis's solo album, entitled "So They Say". The actual song is beautiful, even if the lyrics don't entirely make sense. Some of his other songs that are really good are "Burning the River" and "I Don't Wanna Fight". Anyway, I forgot to mention that Pete Francis is the name that Dispatch member Pete Heimbold used for his solo album. |
Dispatch – I Don't Wanna Fight Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this song is actually by Pete Francis, who goes by the name Pete Heimbold when he sings with dispatch. His songs are more mellow, but every bit as good as dispatch. Burning the river and carry you are also his songs. I'd suggest downloading them to anyone who can. |
