Pearl Jam – I Am Mine Lyrics 21 years ago
Well, I am sure we are going to get plenty of artist's interpretations of 9/11 soon now that musicians have had time to reflect and show their feelings for an event that had such far-reaching consequences. Could this be Eddie Vedder's song about 9/11 and, moreso, how it has forced him and many other people to rethink mortality?

------------
The selfish they're all standing in line
Faith in their hope and to buy themselves time
Me, I figure as each breath goes by
I only own my mind
The north is to south
What the clock is to time
There's east and there's west
And there's everywhere life
I know I was born
And I know that I'll die
The in between is mine
I am mine
------------------

This part talks about how now he realizes life is too short because it can all go in an instant like all those people who went to work that day and never came back. He wants to live life more fully and not worry about dumb shit from now on.

Whereas those lyrics talk about his own personal feelings on 9/11, I think the rest of the lyrics talk about the rest of the country and most of the world in general's response.

----------
And the feeling
Gets left behind
The innocent
Broken with time
--------------

Tell me that part can't be used to apply how we all felt our innocence and feelings of innocence were lost on one day? The line of "The ocean is full cause everyone's crying" also hits that message home bluntly and beautifully.

So, that's my interpretatino, it's about 9/11. I could be way off, but that's how I see it.

Tool – H. Lyrics 21 years ago
You people do realize the problem with saying, "Think for yourself -- Question authority!", right? I mean, by saying this, you youself are turning into an authority figure telling people what to do and thus are undermining what you have just said because you have told us to not believe you. I hope Maynard was being sarcastic (as he often is) when he was quoting that, because it is such an asinine statement to make, much like the Non-Conformist Credo if you take it at face value and don't realize he was being sarcastic with THAT too.

Neil Young – Let's Roll Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm shocked this one isn't on the 9-11 list on this site. It is so clearly about the heroes on Flight 93 and the title is Todd Beamer's famous phrase to boot. I'm not a huge country fan, but I get all charged up when I hear this song, like getting ready to be a soldier in war, which in essence, the people on that flight were.

Although I'm not very in to country, I love this song, a great tribute to Flight 93 on 9/11/01 and in particular Todd Beamer's famous phrase. Only question: How in the world is this one not in the "9-11: SongMeanings Remembers" List?

Live – Overcome Lyrics 21 years ago
I heard the same interview on WXRK, jel, and I do remember the song being released on the Live website (obviously an unfinished version) the day after 9/11 as a way for the band to help their fans cope. It is such a great moving song, and really captures it, I feel. I love the first few lyrics, and being in Manhattan on that day, I could totally relate to the "women in the street pulling out their hair" line. The look on people's faces that day, hell, the look on MY face that day, was something I'll never forget. The helplessness was an unbelievable feeling. I've cried everytime I've heard this song.

Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics 21 years ago
This post proves EXACTLY why we (America) shouldn't go into Iraq. Go after Saudi Arabia, that's where the terrorists lie anyway, and the government is playing us for fools by pretending to be our allies. But don't go for Saddam. So, he has weapons pointed at Europe? GOOD! I hope he blows that elitist snob continent off the face of the planet. No group of countries has been so ungrateful for another country coming in and saving all your asses as the European nations. Let Europe fall under Saddam's rule if it ends up that way.

Is America a hypocritical nation? Yeah, sometimes. Is America responsible of many things in the past to be ashamed of? You bet. But, why don't you ungrateful slime look at your own country's past histories before you comment?

How about England's treatment of those under your imperialistic rule during the British Empire? Boy, you treated the Africans in particular wonderfully.

How about the cowardice most of you nations showed in the face of evil during WW2?

How about how I'd be scared to go to a football game in England without a hooligan murdering me?

Or, for those of you from Holland, how about how shitty the Goldmember character was in the latest Austin Powers movie?

Seriously, this attitude you people for other countries have for Americans is one of the funniest things I've ever come across. Talk about jealousy for the country with the most power. We Americans for the most part know we're not perfect. Too bad most of you Euro countries don't know the same about your countries. Sometimes, I just wish we kept you people under Nazi rule.

Rage Against the Machine – Vietnow Lyrics 21 years ago
One of the real problems I have with bands who force their political opinions on you is that they love BASHING those who force their political opinions on you, as long as their opinions are opposite those that they possess. I mean, I'm not exactly in disagreement completely on their claim that Rush Limbaugh and others on the right wing side love to mold the sheep, but geez, where's the anti-New York Times or university professor rant from RATM? And hell, aren't they doing the same shit with their music? I mean, wake up, people.

Don't get me wrong, I love RATM musically, and this is a great song, but if you think about their messages, they're almost always hypocritical.

Dexys Midnight Runners – Come On Eileen Lyrics 22 years ago
Not to ruin everybody's fond memories of this song, but I recently heard that this song is about, ahem, a man finishing, shall we say. Hence, you could say what he has done is "Come" On "Eileen" (well, we all know why he'd pick the name Eileen, now don't we?) . Pretty funny, especially considering everyone seems to think this is about sweet innocent childhood. At that moment of completion, she certainly does mean everything, as the song would suggest.

The part where they sing like their fathers did and their mothers cried suggests that he lost his virginity to "Eileen". He'd been waiting all this time to do it to finally be a man, like his dad, but his mother wouild cry that her boy is grown up.

Kinda freaky to think about really, considering what most people think this song is about.

George Michael – Shoot The Dog Lyrics 22 years ago
From what I've heard, George has even admitted that this song was about how the U.S. in his mind deserved what happened on September 11th, or at least the U.S. government did. Try telling that to the people who lost their family members at the WTC who don't even work for the government, George, or the people on the airplanes. You think maybe the terrorists coulda made their anti-US governemnt statement which you agree with in a wee bit different way, Georgie?

He's also speaking out against Britain for supporting the U.S. "Tony, Tony, Tony, Tony, I know that you're horny, but something about that Bush ain't right" not only illustrates this but implies Tony Blair and Bush are having a homosexual relationship. Maybe George is hoping they're gay so he can join in on the action, I don't know.

The part that really irks me is that Michael won't release this song in the U.S. That's just being a phony and a fraud. If you want to say it, have the balls to come out and share it with the U.S. and the people whose family members died on the 11th, you coward. By not releasing it here, he's just proving that he cares more about U.S. money than U.S. foreign policy.

Stone Temple Pilots – Dumb Love Lyrics 22 years ago
I'm pretty sure this is about his drug addiction. That would be his true "Dumb Love" in life and the media hell he had to go through because of it. "Persecute the crucified" means the media is persecuting a guy who already killed himself i.e. Scott. Plus, the specific mentions of alcohol and needles and such give it away.
