Jars of Clay – Oh My God Lyrics 12 years ago
It's a simple prayer..."oh my God." By far one of the best JoC songs next to "Worlds Apart."

Oh my, this song is so rough. Yeah, it's from "All Work and No Play." Thank God they got better.

Beautiful song! It's a prayer of safekeeping, asking God to watch over loved ones and bless them.

Johnny Cash – Sam Hall Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is so funny! I love it. There's not much to it...basically, Sam Hall's a guy who's crimes have finally caught up to him and he's going to hang for them. Everyone came to "see him off," so he responds being giving them the metaphorical one-fingered salute. He figures if he's got to go, he's not going to do so nicely, so "a-swingin' he must go."

Johnny Cash – Drive On Lyrics 13 years ago
Yet another great Johnny Cash song. I didn't really know about this song until I listened to it on the VH1 Storytellers album with Johnny and Willie.

Johnny said that when he wrote the song, he and June were reading a lot of books about Vietnam. Something he read caught his eye:
"There was a group of guys going along and one of them would fall, and there was no time to stop and grieve because they might get shot, so they would say 'Drive on, it don't mean nothing.' But it meant everything...a guy loses his leg, 'Drive on, it don't mean nothing.'"

To me, Drive On is a way of saying, "Don't let anything slow you down, because it doesn't really matter. Drive on. Keep going and don't stop." There are a lot of questions that are left unanswered. Some things just don't make sense. Who cares? Drive on.

BTW, in the book, it's a little different, so AudioA is paraphrasing, but it's basically the same good stuff.

Audio Adrenaline – Underdog Lyrics 13 years ago
The quote is from Phillip Yancey's book, "The Jesus I Never Knew":

"Underdog, I wince every time I say the word, especially in connection with Jesus. Yet as I read the birth stories about Jesus I cannot help but conclude that although the world be tilted towards the rich and powerful, God, hallelujah, [in his mercy?] is tilted towards the underdog!"

Audio Adrenaline – See Through Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the story of my life right here...

Basically, he's singing about how he's tried to do the best that he can, but in the end, he's not perfect and he knows it. So he's saying don't look to him to as an example, because he just like any other person, but look past him to see the real person we should be setting our eyes on, Jesus.

Andrea Bocelli – Time To Say Goodbye Lyrics 14 years ago
Sometimes the beauty of the music transcends the words of the song. Still, both the music and the lyrics (English or Italian) are beautiful.

House of Heroes – Friday Night Lyrics 14 years ago
Pretty sweet song. I think it's about a guy who's looking at his life and not liking what he sees. He's arrogant, reckless, but also purposeless. He's good-looking and so is his girlfriend, he's got money, and he's popular, but he's starting to realize that he's missing something... I think he's realizing that he needs Jesus and to turn his life around. That's the missing piece of the puzzle.

Johnny Cash – One Lyrics 14 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Johnny Cash, he's one of the best artists of the last century, but I really don't think this was the best cover of this song. I mean, he makes a good song, but I just think it's missing the passion and emotion of the original. Again, nothing against J.C., but it could have been better.

Relient K – When I Go Down Lyrics 14 years ago
There's a word I'm trying to think of...I think it's "wow." This song just goes to prove how far Relient K and Matt Theissen's lyrics have gone in the last few years. Totally amazing.
As far as the meaning goes, though, I think that this is a song about rising from the ashes of an emotionally burned out life. They've been living their life according to their own selfish desires and thing seem to be going smoothly, but soon they find that that life's taking them nowhere but down. Really down. Really quickly. So quickly, that before they even know it, they've hit rock bottom. It hurts, but the most painful thing is that they realize that they could have avoided all this if they had just followed God. They just want all this to be over, but "that's not the way it works." No, they've got to admit that they're wrong, and more importantly, to repent and submit to the will of God. And that's the beautiful part. Because even though they've gone and messed things up completely, and have hit the rock bottom, all they have to do is look up and there's Jesus, right next to them, "with open arms, to lift them up again."
Just my two cents.

Johnny Mandel – Suicide Is Painless Lyrics 14 years ago
Such a hauntingly beautiful song. It really conveys the sense of apathy and hopelessness that comes about with depression and suicide. And to think that it was written by a 14-year-old. (Trivia time: It was written by Mike Altman, the son of the movie's director, Robert Altman. Mike got a lot richer than his dad from the movie.)

Relient K – This Week The Trend Lyrics 14 years ago
I like this song, and I'd say it's slowly becoming one of my favorites. I love the last line and how it builds up, "Stuck watching our lives blow up." Anyway, as far as what it means, I think it's talking how this guy's so caught up in the moment and what seems right at the time, but in the end, realizes that he needs a wake up call. God had showed him the right way, but he chose to ignore it, thinking he could figure things out his own way, but then realized that his own way doesn't work at all.

Sanctus Real – Hey Wait Lyrics 15 years ago
No one's commented on this song, yet? Well, it's not one of those songs that really needs commenting and stands high by itself. This is a song about keeping hope in the midst of hardship and fear, and is essential a song of comfort. We all go through difficult times, times when we begin to doubt and fear, and we wonder if it will ever end. However, through it all we have Jesus and the hope we have in Him. When we reach those low points, He's always there to "pick us up when the're no one around" and to "hold us up when our hearts hit the ground," and praise God for that.

Sanctus Real – Sink Or Swim Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this is a song to himself and his sinful nature that he knows he has to get rid of. He's been living in a way that he shouldn't be living, and he's just now realizing that that's got to stop. "There is no place for you in what I am called to do." It's either the good or the bad, not both. It's sink or swim.

Relient K – Chap Stick, Chapped Lips, And Things Like Chemistry Lyrics 15 years ago
At first, I thought this was just one of their "fun" songs that doesn't really have anything to do with God directly, but was still fun to listen to. But now I'm starting to see some message in it. I think what it's about is how it's easy to get wrapped up in things that really don't matter (as much as we'd hate to realize it) like "chapstick, chapped lips, and things like chemistry." We get so involved in our relationships with the opposite sex and with other people, that we seem to lose our relationship with God, which is far more important. Anyway, that's my two cents worth. BTW, it's still a fun song!

Relient K – A Penny Loafer Saved, A Penny Loafer Earned Lyrics 15 years ago
This is a fun song. I have no idea what it means, if anything, but nevertheless, it's fun to listen to. Heh, I like the Beach Boys allusion at the end. BTW, I think what he's singing is "and soon there will be just one left turn." I thought it was "assemble the b" at first, too, but I think "and soon there will be" makes more sense.

Audio Adrenaline – Man Of God Lyrics 15 years ago
This is one of my favorite songs on the "Bloom" CD, because it's one I can really relate to. It talks about how a lot of the time he lives the way that he, as a Christian, should be living, but like everyone, messes up some times, or most of the time. Still, in spite of his failures and short-comings, God, through His grace, has stuck with him through it all, continually "fixing his aim," and praise be to Him for that.

Relient K – Balloon Ride Lyrics 16 years ago
A lot of times, we often find that we're focusing on ourselves, and doing things "our way," because for some reason, man has this funny thing called pride, and we think that we're powerful and flawless in all that we do, when in fact, we're far from it. We mess up; we blow it; we fail. And it's in these times that we're really hit hard, because we have to face that fact, the fact that we really are weak, and we can't do things on our own. It's also in these times that we're forced into a much needed humility, and that's what I think this song's about: the realization that we NEED God, but more importantly, that He's always there for us, even when we do utterly fail. If we keep our focus on God, even when those around us mock us and try to bring us down, He'll take care us, all because of the simple fact that He loves us. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:28-29

Relient K – Charles In Charge Lyrics 16 years ago
This is song is awesome, a great rendition of the classic theme song for a classic show! I like the comments, I think it's supposed to be Buddy, like "Hey this will be Matt Thiessen on solo guitar. He's the bomb" Heh, if you listen closely, at the end of the solo, you can hear one of the guys shout "Hey, that was terrible!" Always cracks me up. rK forever!

Relient K – Those Words Are Not Enough Lyrics 16 years ago
This song rocks and then some. Seriously, I can put this song on loop and listen to it for hours. Matt Hoopes wrote this song for a change, and did an awesome job with it. Not only is it a great praise song to God, the music behind it rocks with all its harmonization, especially at the end where they break off in to two parts. Definitely up there on favorite rK songs.

Mark Schultz – He's My Son Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is one of the most absolutely beautiful songs I have ever heard. It's very rare that a song would make me cry, but this is one of those that does. Clearly, this song's about a man and his dying son. He's praying to God and pleading that he be with him and give him strength. Mark got the influence for this song from watching a friend deal with his son's leukemia. Anyway, it's an encredibly touching song. It's excellent: the music, the voice, and especially the lyrics, it's all great.

DC Talk – What If I Stumble? Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a song about the Christian walk and how sometimes we may stumble away from God, but when we do we should just pick ourselves up and keep on going. This is an excellent song, which many people, including myself, can relate to. The quote from Brennan Manning at the beginning is very unforgettable, yet unforunately very true. As a side note, at the dcTalk solo concert I attended, Toby said that when he wrote the song he should have written, "What when I stumble?", because everybody stumbles at least once during their life.

DC Talk – Red Letters Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is talking about how we can find love and hope in Jesus and the words that he spoke. The red letters refers to the versions of the Bible in which the words of Jesus are highlighted in red. I think this is a beautiful song, probably one of my favorite dcTalk ones.
