The Bees (known as "A Band of Bees" in America because of a conflict of rights to the name) began as the duo of Paul Butler and Aaron Fletcher, both of whom hailed from the Isle of Wight. Their interests are reflected in their music, which melds '60's freakbeat and psychedelic sensibilities with '70's power pop.
Their 2002 album 'Sunshine Hit Me' was a critical success, and from that success the duo formed a band shortly after. Finishing up with six members, with everyone writing songs and switiching instruments played. In 2004 they released their follow up album 'Free the Bees' that was met with rave reviews and got noticed by the US market too.
In 2007 their next album dropped 'Octopus' and the band was reduced to only four members. The album included a wide ranging pop/rock opus but still retained the uniqueness of their sound on previous albums.
