Brian Eno's full name is Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno. He was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England on May 15, 1948. Aside from being a musician and artist, Eno is also a teacher and producer. He is known as the pioneer of ambient music. One of his influences was the American composer John Cage. Eno was a former member of the band Roxy Music where he played the synthesizer. Eno has collaborated with various artists over the course of his career including David Bowie and U2. His music can also be heard on TV shows and films, including the movie "Trainspotting."
Brian Eno began his professional career with the band Roxy Music, but quit 2 years later, citing creative differences with lead singer Bryan Ferry, and boredom with the lifestyle.
He had later described his Roxy Music tenure as important to his career: "As a result of going into a subway station and meeting [saxophonist Andy Mackay], I joined Roxy Music, and, as a result of that, I have a career in music. If I'd walked ten yards further on the platform, or missed that train, or been in the next carriage, I probably would have been an art teacher now".
Eno embarked on a solo career immediately after leaving Roxy Music. His first few albums (Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain, Another Green World and Before and After Science) start out with more pop-like song featuring electronic accompanyment, but as time went on, more and more of his music grew to his well known ambient style. In fact, Brian Eno is widly credited as coining the term for the style of music he later grew famous for.
