A alternative rock band band formed in Suffolk, England that mixes influences of Britpop, punk, juvenille humour and synths. The band was founded in the early 1990's by Jason and Adam Perry (twins) and was originally called 'Grand Designs'. The brother's friend, Mark Chapman, and bassist Stevie Swindon completed the line-up.
The band changed their name to 'A' in 1993, and abandoned their early progressive rock-inspired sound for a more punk rock sound. They released their debyt LP How Ace Are Buildings in 1997 with Warner Bros. Records UK.
The band found a healthy underground reception and even had a couple of low-charting singles in the UK. After the mild success brought to the band by How Ace Are Buildings, bassist Stevie Swindon decided to quit the band. He was replaced by bassist and future BBC Radio 1 Rock Show DJ Daniel P Carter. Their second album 'A' Vs. Monkey Kong followed in 1999, which the band toured the world on the back. They enjoyed small degrees of success, especially in Germany.
Their 2002 album Hi-Fi Serious was more poppy and powerful.
