Rover is a Norwegian rock band from Asker outside of Oslo. The band formed in 2003 by vocalist/guitarist Troll, lead guitarist Jan Magnus Nymo and pianist Johann Ruud; it expanded the following year to include drummer Bjorn Bommen and bassist Andreas Nedrelid. They have released 4 EP's and 1 studio album titled The Illumination. The band was awarded Best Up and Coming artist in February 2010 by the biggest Norwegian music magazine Musikk Praksis.
The band formed in 2003 under the name Lucid Dreams. They recorded the 6-track EP Dark Rain Beautiful in the spring of 2004. The EP was released in December 2004, on the night of their first public concert. Soon after the release of Dark Rain Beautiful, the band was contacted by the Norwegian guitarist Ronni Le Tekrø, who offered the band a record deal with his label Studio Studio Music.
Lucid Dreams recorded The Great Outdoors EP at Tekrø's Studio Studio in Toten in the summer of 2005, and released it in May 2006. During the sessions at Studio Studio, Lucid Dreams was renamed to Rover, and the EP was released under the new name. After its release, Rover announced the end of its cooperation with Studio Studio, and began working with Norwegian producer Andreas Eide Larsen. The team travelled to Riga, Lativia, and recorded what would become the foundation of their debut album, The Illumination. It nearly took three years, and was released as a promotional limited release in an effort to attract other record labels.
In May 2010, the band released their third EP, The Perfect Violation, which included a re-recording of their trademark song "The Sound of Storms to Come" previously released on The Great Outdoors EP. In February 2011, Rover released their fourth EP I Am Man (A Call For Unity), and at the same time announcing April 4, 2011 as the release date for their debut album The Illumination.
According to singer Troll's statement on the bands official Facebook page, Rover is currently working on the follow-up to The Illumination, set for release third quarter of 2013.
