... American Football was a brief indie rock trio project lasting from 1997 to 2000. The lineup consisted of Mike Kinsella (Guitars, Bass guitar, Vocals), Steve Lamos (drums, percussion) and Steve Holmes (guitarist).
From a lyrical perspective, most consider the band to either be emo or to have strong emo roots. However, musically from what little music they produced they seem to have been focused on intricate but softly delivered math rock with varying time signatures and delicate lead guitar licks.
The band released two eponymous albums; a 3-track EP in 1998 and a full-length LP in 1999. The band collectively decided to separate in 2000 on good terms.
