Sweetwater was an American rock band from Los Angeles known for being the first act scheduled to perform at Woodstock in 1969. However, they were delayed on their way to the festival and went on to perform second, after Richie Havens. Their use of cello, flute, conga drums, and vocal harmony contributed to their psychedelic sound. Singer Nansi Nevins was severely injured in a car accident in December 1969, sustaining brain damage and tearing one of her vocal cords, which effectively put an end to the band for many years. In 1999 VH1 aired a made for TV movie on the band entitled Sweetwater: A True Rock Story.
