Basically, this song is saying that "he" screwed up. He doesn't know how to explain it, because it was against reason, whatever he did. He wants to be able to explain what he did with science and reasoning, but he just can't, because love doesn't work like that. And this person means everything to him, so he wants to try it over again, but the other person thinks that there should be something to explain it.
My favorite song I've heard by Coldplay. I can't wait 'til the new album comes out tomorrow.
i agree as well, I wish he would have mentioned that in the end there really isn't anything to explain. You just simply move on. I feel the love song could have take into more depth.

That is exacly what I thought, he wants to go back with her he did Screwed up. He wants to make up for it. He wants to explain to the chick what he has done, but for some reason he doesn't know how to explain to her.

I was thinking the opposite. He ruined the relation ship by thinking to much and did not listen to hes heart. So when the relationship was ruined it was first then he understood that "Science and progress did not speak as loud as my heart"

It also fits with "I'm going back to the start" Which is a good metaphor for when science does not have as much sway and the obvious one for starting over.

I think you guys are right, but I don't think she left him. I think she died. "come back and haunt me" "oh and I rush to the start" if you watch the video you get it from there too.

This seems accurate enough, however another spin on it may be, in my opinion.

The song could be about a partner (wife maybe) is losing a battle with some kind of fatal disease and he can't accept the fact that there's a good chance shes going to die.
the disease could have a 50% chance of ending her life and some of the lyrics support that idea aswell.

if you read the lyrics with this in mind, it seems to make alot of sense

100% correct there on that. Sometimes you just wish what you did was wrong was actually the right thing to do. You didn't mean to hurt that significant other, but you did and you wish you could just go back to the start and retry and say you're sorry for your actions. I think what the singer at the end is trying to do is to say use your head before you make a mistake, but I could be wrong.

Oh yeah, this description seems about right. You can watch the video on youtube and what Massofclouds is saying fits it perfectly.
