This to me is a song about jealousy... being a new parent, or being held back, while your friends are off jet-setting and exploring the world. Peggy was a new mother at the time when this was recorded.

"And in your eyes I caught The actual fire of just what living could be And that’s gone from me"

She sees the passion and excitement in her adventurous friend, and realises that passion has left her.

"And so what riches lay Out there where you went to where I never could go? 'Cause my holes might show"

She was shy and introverted, afraid to show her true self if she were to truly let go.

"And I still think of you In my mind I watch you catching ride after ride It all opened wide"

Her friend caught one break after another (in her mind) and life became much better.

"I’m watching from back here I’m so glad you got clear"

I think she accepts it though... she knows she's chosen a different path... one where she will be left behind in a quiet and simple existence.
