What I imagine while listening to this song is a juvenile falling in love with a gal, they are in a relationship of sorts but then she leaves him, laughing, as if everything were a joke. The boy is so in love with her, wishing that he marries her and that she gives birth to his children, but after she leaves him in such a manner, all that is left is a sadness that has come to stay (the tree being the metaphor for the unchanging state the boy has come upon).
