I believe that this song is about Mars Argo's fear of getting older. Mrs. Stadler might have been the name of an art teacher in Mars's earlier years, who inspired her greatly. Seeing Mrs. Stadler get older, and hearing about it too, Mars might have realized she's going to eventually get older too. By the line, "I didn't want to leave that way", it might reference that she doesn't want to leave this world by old age, where her complexion and beauty wouldn't be the same. Although, this is a bit of a stretch, considering Mars's song "Beauty is Empty".

After Mars had gotten out of school, Stadler and Mars might have been friends, which could explain Titanic Sinclair singing lines such as "If you see me again, will you still be my friend?". Even though Mars and Stadler were friends, Mars still can't help but think of herself in the same position as Stadler, growing older and hair turning gray. Possibly, the lines "I come in peace to drink your wine, and find myself in photographs" references Mars and Stadler being friends too, as maybe they would have drunk wine and taken photos together.

"We're all crossing the starting line, it hurts my back to think of it" might also support the theory that this song is about Mars fearing old age. "I wanna leave this place and time" could mean that Mars wants her life to end before she inevitably ages. "I've got a feeling, it's so hard to say, but your life will happen anyway" also could represent the inevitability of old age.

@transstarsol Well in her song "Beauty is Empty," she is directing that statement at an individual. She references beauty leaving with age in "Love In Black And White." "I feel my figure changing"

I think there's no doubt this song is about not wanting to die/age. She references cancer: "I heard about your cells today," and "I didn't want to leave that way"
