Not to get to literal with the lyrics but to me it's about a relationship gone sour due to decisions made by one party hence the relationship died and won't grow and he holds her accountable for things that he thought was happening but she won't or can't admit to. He's okay with not being together as long as she doesn't tell anybody about how he acted. Then it goes into the last part about waking the dead and repressing the anger in his speech. Holding grudges and saying things you don't mean and you can't take them back or apologize. But as you get older you let the anger all go and not letting your past make who you are in the future.
Overall a song about seeing your own flaws and trying to change them to better yourself.
