Yeah, he does seem to be reminiscing about a happier time, but the beginning where he says "if you're good we'll go out on Sunday" is weird. It's as if now she's in jail or out on parole and he's her parole officer. Or else now she has Alzheimer's so he talks to her like she's a little kid.
