It's like they've "known" each other for years, but only because they live in the same small town and it's kind of inevitable. But it's more of a "i know OF you", rather than an "i know you" sort of relationship, where they hear things about each other but never really sat down to get to know one another personally. But then in this song, they do. I think they meet and hit it off and actually become pretty good friends, but they kind of have this rumour mill between them, like they've heard rumours of each other they can't get past. So Matty's saying, "well it's just you and i tonight, no one else, so why don't you try and figure me out, then?" basically saying to ignore what you heard of him, and get to know him personally.
Matty's usually very honest in his other songs, so it's easy to picture him sitting down with someone and telling them to ignore rumours and to just get to know him as a person, rather than an idea. He talks a lot of shit about drugs and sex, but in reality I think he believes himself to be quite easy to understand.
