There's a note of irony in the song and I wonder if it's intentional. On one hand, you've got "I ask you to hold me", "i ask you to love me", on the other, "stop asking for more". If the same person says those three things, there's a note of hypocrisy, that they speaker is not getting what she wants, nor willing to give what he wants.

So you've got two people who want different things and are not willing/capable of satisfying each other, and the speaker shows contempt for her partner. You could probably switch the verbs around and create a fitting song to be sung by her comparably dissatisfied partner.
