In each verse, he talks about his past relationships while he was at his uncle's house and how the relationships just didn't work out. Then he talks about how his mom had pain problems and smoked, and he struggled to get her to see it was bad for her. She said that he was like his did, which angered him and make him move out, and his mom called saying sorry and that she loved him. Then he talks about how he had no money and no job, and should "walk up the street and try to get a job at the bank." Once he was famous, Lil Wayne called him and they did a "mixtape" together (which is Drake's album, So Far Gone, and the album title is saying that his mom loved him from the start, but now everyone loves him and he's just not the same boy as he used to be) and once he "almost gets a Grammy off of the album," he pays for his mom to get her surgery and makes good on his promise to send her on a vacation to Rome as she's always wanted, and he can pay back his uncle for the money and help that he gave Drake before he made it big. He also mentions his father, "living in Memphis now" and that he "didn't pay child support" and how it was like every other "black American dad story." Then he goes on to say "I know I'm your sister's kid" (he's talking to his uncle, and how he was like a father to him because of how much he loved him) and his house was where he spent time with girls he was seeing at the time. And how his uncle encouraged him to go on without acting and pursue his music career, he was always there to talk to. He changed the way Drake saw the world and even let him borrow his car ("toss me the keys to your car...just a young kid in a drop top Lexus, hopin that I don't get arrested") and although he was worried that the world wouldn't accept him, he always was there to keep giving him encouragement. And once he was famous, he was able to "put all the money in his accounts back," repaying him for all that he had done with helping him get to where he is, saying that he couldn't have done it without him. It all worked out, and he deserved it.
