One of my least favourite songs from "New Day Rising" then my co-worker explained some of the key ideas in it and I love it.
It's a tortured Bob song and has his dark wit. The best line is "I think I might lose my mind but not my memory" = He can't forget or lose the cause of his pain and that might just cause him to lose his sanity.
Some people say "leave the past behind" but for him, it's always there. I guess someone of us make painful choices or experience painful things and they permanently shape us.
There's also an emptiness he has. That torturedness is the only thing he thinks he has going for himself.
