I respect that this is a cover, and all credit to Shocking Blue...but Kurt took this song, and fucked the shit out of its grunge-hole in the best way possible.
Reading over that, it sounds like an immature statement, but I do mean it in the way that it was taken to such an extent that it was still recognisable to the original, but something amazing in it's own way (as all covers should do).
Secondly, I would have to disagree that Kurt wouldn't feel any connection to the lyrics of this song because he didn't write them. From what I can fathom from my readings, he was an avid fan of music, both Pop and Punk. These lyrics could possibly encompass his feelings towards Tracy (his girlfriend at the time of this songs launch as their debut single through Sub-Pop).
Who can ever know....you can't blame the drugs TOO much at this stage, because he pretty damn clean during these earlier days, except for the occasional heavy binge and what he did during his teens. But yeah, like I said...who can ever know.
