"And the one poor child who saved this world
And there's ten million more who probably could
If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them"
The poor child he sings about has to be Jesus Christ. I think the 'ten million more' they're referring to may be people who have died in vain, such as soldiers at war etc.
In general 'Better Days' is about dreaming of a time where all bad things are removed from the world such as poverty and war which are and have been very topical.
I don't hear war in any of the lyrics. I hear a desire to end poverty and I hear him singing that he doesn't need the finer things (superficial things such as expensive clothing and such); all he wants is to be happy, which is a universal want. Just saw the band in concert tonight and they were wonderful...truly a wonderful show. Love to see old rockers my age still kicking it....

the 10 million more i think is us, we are all capable of helping the world if we all look to ourselves and help one another
