kids being afraid when it rains, meaning they all run into houses and either watch the rain or just keep away from it.
they bark at trains, meaning they play and yell about it (when i was a kid i yelled and screamed jokingly when firetrucks drove by).
running from the house and coming back the same day, meaning going out and having fun with friends, then late in the day you go back to your house.
in love with their chains, chains being home.
i don't know, that's just how i take it.
of course it could just be an observation by the writer of actual dogs doing these things.
