i think the first line is "yesterday i was hiding right under my smile"..that makes more sense too.
seems to me the song's about regretting his white lies..now he has to live with the consequences and he can't believe it's all real, happening to him all at once. but part of that is, he's accepting himself that he's just a normal man that makes mistakes, and his mistakes make him a normal man. :)
