I love love love this song, my take is that a person in a relationship of sorts knows that the love between them and the other person (or situation/thing) is neither all good or bad for them, but that it just is. But the fact that it is there is just so controlling that they are starting to feel as if it's too consuming. They think it's great at first, but then it gets too be too much, they both act out... and regardless it still remains.
