If you have ever heard of the term the Mendoza Line, it's a baseball term. What the Mendoza Line means is a MLB player, that hasn't been hitting enough pitches. Often, the Mendoza Line is defined as a batting average of .200 or less (although the term's namesake, Mario Mendoza, has a career average of .215) and therefore, isn't hitting at a level that's justifiable to keep him in the MLB. Mario Mendoza was called up to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 70s as he was a defensive powerhouse at short stop, but was never though to be batting his weight — which is something most MLB players would put short term loans at least to be doing.
