Quite simply, this song is about ending things, seemingly not on the best of terms.
"So no regrets, it's better left unreconciled." He sings about not wanting to argue because he'll regret what he says later; it's better to just let the argument go, along with their relationship. Cut your losses, so to speak. It seems that the girl in this relationship did something wrong, and she wants his forgiveness, but she doesn't make a move toward earning that forgiveness. The song goes on to basically say that "if you're not willing to make a concession, neither am I. If you're not willing to give up a little pride and apologize, why should I sacrifice my dignity and trust by taking you back?" All things aside, this is a beautiful song.
