because you didn't understand what's in my heart. because you didn't have the courage to see who i am.

because you don't listen to the things closest to you. you only listen to the noises outside. And i, the person right next to you, disappear completely.

But i'm not gonna cry and say that i don't deserve this. Because maybe i do, but still, i don't want this. So i'm leaving.

Too bad, but good bye. I'm leaving you. Fare thee well.

because i know someone better awaits me. someone that knows how to love. someone that will turn salt into sugar, and night into day.

You see, I thought i would never leave you. i thought our love was good and ever lasting. but now i understand that's not gonna be enough for us.

So i'm not gonna cry and say that i don't deserve this, because i probably do. Still, i don't want it, so i'm leaving.

Too bad, but good bye. i'm leaving you, fare thee well.

This obviously isn't a literal translation. I want to translate the emotions (i think) she conveyed through american phrasings. I'm only learning spanish and i want to relate the lyrics with the language i'm used to hearing and thinking. if i would've directly translate it, it would've sounded too rigid for me.

The song is particularly beautiful because of the melody. the waltz-y rithym lends a romantic feel, while the actual lyrics can be quite cold. The chorus may lead you into believing that she still misses him, because maybe the relationship isn't that bad. But as she mentions, she believes she can find someone better, someone who's ideal, so she isn't settling and she isn't looking back.
