I think that watching the music video for this song really makes a difference in how the song is interpreted. Reading through the other comments, nobody else really said what I think this song is about, so I though I'd throw in my two cents.

The song starts off talking about how he fell in love with this girl. She cooks him pancakes, gives him alka seltzer, and what-not. He says it's love, but gives somewhat empty examples, and sure enough, it ends up not working out. At this point, he finds a new girl, and falls in love with her, citing such evidence as "she even got her very own ringtone." That is just about the hollowest excuse for love I've ever heard. Just like the first relationship, this one doesn't work out either. Then comes the 3rd girl. For this one, the mood of the song changes. He talks about more significant things, and has a lot more to say about her. She seems to mean a lot more to him than the other two girls. Also, he doesn't call it love. INstead of saying something along the lines of "I'm in love" he basically says "I don't care what you call it, but there's something there." The song also slows down, and has a more romantic and serious feel to it, whereas the rest of the song is kinda upbeat and almost playfully sarcastic in ways. Another thing to note is Cupid. For the first two women, cupid influenced the relationship by getting this guy to fall for the girls. In the third, Cupid didn't get a chance. If you watch the video, Cupid was about to make another attempt at true love, but the guy starts talking to the other girl first, indiciating that this love wasn't forced. So basically, what I'm trying to say is that this song is about trying to force love. More and more, it seems as if young people enter a relationship, and convince themselves that this is the one. They dedicate themselves completely to that person, and say they found true love, and all that. They don't know what actual love is, and give up everything. People are losing virginity at younger ages, and have sex with more people, because they think they found someone who is worth more than everyone else, and do things they really shouldn't do. Then, because it is just another fling, it ends up falling apart, and then they go their separate ways, and find someone else whot hey fall in love with. This song is about a guy who enters relationships thinkign they're the real deal, but in the end, finds a girl who actually is different. He tries forcing love, and makes a girl out to be more than she really is. It's a warnign to not do that, because it never works out. If you want real love, you have to hold back and let it happen. Be patient, and wait for the right person.
