I love this song. I agree with fallen leaves... in the video they are climbing hills and carrying huge backpacks, which doesn't really have anything to do with war so really it only goes to prove it's a metaphor... I like the video though, it sets a good environment. I am prolly wrong though... Where it says:

It sounds like he could be someone coming to deliver the bad news...
For some reason I used to think this had something to do with drug abuse... I guess because of the "coming down", "lifting me above the clouds" parts and the general theme... Sorry if I ruined the song for you :/
