Lyric discussion by kr580

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It has one of the best riffs ever (in my opinion), great guitar work, an awesome sound all around and the lyrics are just perfect to me.

Revisited's interpretation might be possible if they were talking about DUSK, not DAWN. The dawn of his life would be when he was born. If they said dusk his explanation might make sense.

Here's my interpretation. I've always viewed it as an innocent enough love song, not anything too complex or with some hidden meanings. Of course I don't delve too deep into song meanings so take it as you will.

"It's getting near dawn When lights close their tired eyes"

  • The Sun is about to come up. Street lights, advertisement lights and such are turning off.

"I'll soon be with you my love To give you my dawn surprise"

  • It's almost time to wake up and they can consciously be with each other. You can guess what the surprise might be.

"I'll be with you, darling, soon I'll be with you when the stars start falling"

  • They're about to wake up. Falling stars could be like a 'magical' moment.

"I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going"

  • He's been waiting to be with her so long, to have her love. This is the first time he's woken up with her, it's just them two and he felt it was finally real love.

"In the sunshine of your love"

  • All her love is focused on him.

"I'm with you, my love The light's shining through on you"

  • A: He's so in love with her that it seems she's more bright, vibrant and beautiful than before.
  • B: The sunlight's shining through the curtains onto her, highlighting her, making her beauty glow.

"Yes, I'm with you, my love It's the morning and just we two"

  • Self explanatory.

"I'll stay with you, darling, now I'll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up"

  • I see this as saying he'll be with her until he dies. (As in when a sea dries up it 'dies'.) The suggestive idea is possible as well.

@kr580 I took "I'll be with you, darling, soon/I'll be with you when the stars start falling" to mean that he will be with her in a short time and also until the end of time, as "falling stars" is a biblical reference to the end of an age.
