I actually think it's about those who believe only what there eyes can see, those that think too much and don't feel enough.
The verses talk about how these men only deal with "facts." The don't spend their time suspending disbelief (i.e. practicing religion, believing intuition)
The bridge is basically telling these people not to be so hypocritical and to look at all the facts, the way the tell the overly faithful.
It's not really condoning either side, it's just pointing out hypocrisy. The scientific men are as devoted to facts as the religious people they despise are devoted to their faith.
