Beauty in simplicity, like so many of his songs.

Personally, I agree with they say this was written for his father. However, I think in the song he is talking to a lover. He clearly has intense emotions bearing down on him but he asks the lover to grant him one wish... to give him affection to take his mind off of the depression that surrounds him.

I also thought these lines were intriguing: "Now our heads are filled with perfect sound But do we truly see it hey till we're placing it in the ground" I think that he may be suggesting that perhaps, there is beauty around us but he also asks if we see it before one of our loved ones dies. He asks this because he has obviously found beauty in his lover following the death of his loved one. Maybe he thinks that he unfortunately didn't realize, or appreciate, before the death.

The fuzzy rhythmic beat at the beginning emphasizes the monotony of dealing with death and depression. Yet, interestingly, it suddenly becomes lighter once he speaks of his lover, as if they are the ones who brightens his dreary world.

One of my favorites. A true classic.
