Lyric discussion by michaelgoldma

"Too bored to live and too young to die" Life does not have enough to offer to this person.

"You get too tall they'll cut you down to size" Everytime he or she goes after what he or she wants, there is someone in the way who cuts them back down to size and takes that away from him or her.

"TV fear sells brand new cars" People want and expect this person to do something different with his or her life; in this case it's selling cars.

"But my love lives with my guitar" However, this person has dreams of his or her own, and that is music.

"Easy to feel that free when you know what you want to be" It should be easy to feel free if you're sure of what you want to do with you're life. This line seems to be a hint/implication that the person should completely disregard what people say and think if he or she is so sure of what his or her dream is.

"Stand up, your time has come back around Stand up, there's nothing holding you down Walk on, with your feet off the ground" Again, this is telling the person to ignore what people say and think of his or her dreams and let nothing hold him or her back from following the dream he or she has.

"How they gonna stop you now? How they gonna stop you now?" Once the person moves past whether or not people approve, nothing will stop him or her.

"So you learn to live or you'll learn to lie Just don't sit and watch the world go by" This verse seems to be the songwriter telling the person to do whatever it takes to accomplish his or her goal, whether it means ignoring other people's judgements and doing what he or she wants, or resorting to lying to do what the person wants to do. Either way, the person should not sit and watch the world go by.

"TV fear sells brand new cars But my love lives with my guitar Easy to feel that free When you know what you want to be" Again, it should be easy to be free if you know what you want to do, so the person must eliminate anyone who doesn't approve of his or her dream and be completely free.

"Stand up your time has come back around Stand up there's nothing holding you down Walk on with your feet off the ground" Again, after the person gets rid of the people who have been trying to stop him or her from reaching that dream, the person can stand up with nothing holding them down.

"How they gonna stop you now? How they gonna stop you now? How they gonna stop you now? Never gonna stop you now." And then, asks the songwriter rhetorically, how will anyone stop him?

"I said stand up Don't sit back down I said stand up Don't sit back down" The songwirter is continuing to push the person to stand up and go for his or her dream.

"They got the mouth, we got the soul Come on now honey won't you let it roll" All they've got are big mouths and they'll continue to tell the person what to do, but the person is the one who knows what's in his or her self, and that is the ability to reach his or her dream.

"You got the move don't hang around Come on honey can you hear me now?" A continuation of the last four lines, this time asking if the person understands what he or she is being told. And the rest of the song is basically repetitions of all old lines.

Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?

Stand up Stand up

Stand up, your time has come back around Stand up, there's nothing holding you down Walk on, with your feet off the ground

How they gonna stop you now? I said, how they gonna stop you now? How they gonna stop you now?

This is a solid song, musically and lyrically. It's definitely one of my favorites of the album.
