I think it’s about global warming making earth uninhabitable and us moving to mars. The title of the song Big Red is refering to mars. In the first verse it’s talking about trying to make mars livable. In the first chorus, it states "It’s a long way across all of this black Here I am in my bucket today in the middle." Space is very black, and very big. And by bucket he could mean the bucket seat of a space ship. Then in the second verse it talks about bulldozing and the ice caps being destroyed, and maybe turning the "green map blue" could mean the earth flooding. If the weather gets warm, the ice caps would melt. Then in the last chorus, it talks about leaving the tarmac. Which is often in airports.
